SYSTEM OF
CLERICAL/SECRETARIAL
PROGRAMS
Conestoga College is phasing out the
following Certificate programs: Clerk -
Typist, Bookkeeping -Typist, Secretary -
Machine Transcription and Secretary -
Shorthand. If, as a part-time student,
you have been working towards one of
these Certificates through Continuing
Education courses, you will be required
to submit a copy of your Affirmations
along with a written request, in order to
obtain a Certificate. , •
You will also be required to validate
your speed skills in Typewriting, Short-
hand (if applicable) and Machine Tran-
scription (if applicable) before a Certifi-
cate is issued. •
Although Certificate Programs will no.
longer be available after December 31,
1985, Conestoga College will continue
to offer courses designed to develop or
improve skills required by persons
employed or seeking employment in a
wide variety of office settings.
Students participating in the following
courses will be encouraged to progress
at their own speed. The emphasis is on
self-directed. learning and individualized
instruction. Previous clerical/secretarial
training and/or experience may enable
students to progress at a faster rate.
Upon successful completion of each
course, students will receive a Cones-
toga College Affirmation. It is, recom-
mended that students have completed
at Least Grade 10 or Academic Upgrad-
ing -Level III before attending these
courses. It is also recommended that
_ students...pocaess the .prereqursitesout—
lined in the description for each course
before attempting the course.
Bookkeeping Fundamentals; A
This course is designed td introduce
the student to the fundamentals of
Bookkeepin3...After refreshing your
knowledge of Zhe fundamentals of arith-
metic, you will proceed tothe topics of
Bookkeeping.
Topics 'include: Calculator Operation;
Terminology; Sales Journal and Caash
Receipts Journal; Purchases; Accounts
Payable and Cash Payments Journals;
The General Ledger and Posting; Con-
trol Accounts and Subsidiary Ledgers;
Payroll Record's; Cash Control; Bank
Reconciliation and Petty Cash.
Each student will progress at his/her
own rate. Students with previous Book-
keeping experience may require less
time to complete the course. Students
with no previous knowledge of' Book-
keeping may require more than one
semester for completion.
This course is a preparatory course for
Bookkeeping /Accounting.
