last year's success
LISTOWEL - North America's ,largest
Irish festival, the Paddyfest, thrown by the
Listowel Kinsmen, will kickoff on March
3.
But it will need a lot of energy to out -do
last year's activities.
Record crowdswere on hand at the
Paddyfestivities last year and the Listowel
Kinsmen report such events as the annual
parade, competitions and dances were an
unqualified success.
Marjorie Nuhn, of Listowel, was the big
winner in the Pot -of -Gold draw winning a
total of $1000 for holding the lucky ticket.
Maureen Basler was crowned Miss
Paddyfest. T Listowel resident won the
title on th gth of her step -dancing
skills, public speaking ability and overall
enthusiasm.
The Listowel Fire Department . team
captured first prize in the bed races and
the soap box derby was won by Shawn
Donegan.
The tug-of-war competition was won by
the Listowel Has-beens and the step -dance
competition, which had to be delayed one
week because of stormy weather had
about 75 entries. The overall solo dance
winner was Shannon Preszcator of Clinton.

best beard while Laverne Kuepfer had the
most colorful and Ian Anderson the most
original.
A well-known trio of children's recording
artists, Sharon, Lois and Bram, had
children at a concert singing, dancing and
clapping.
The dances were long -anticipated and
great fun. ,
Other events, such as the Paddyfest road
races, the log sawing competitions, the
arm wrestling championships, the gym-
nastic demonstrations and the sales, were
well attended and thoroughly enjoyable.
At the 1985 festivities, the Listowel
Kinsmen have many of the same events
lined up and a few new ones.
This year, in fact,M1the Kinsmen will be
using a'brand new stage for the events, one
twice as big as the old one.
Paddyfest kicked off with the opening of
the step -dance competitions and a family
concert featuring Sandra Beech, a sister of
Will and George of the Irish Rovers.
Also on the schedule: a Vegas night, the

hockey tournament, a ringette tour-
nament, a bonspiel and other sporting

promise to be true to their slogan this year,
"The festival of fun for everyone."
