Parents, friends attend
Sunday School concert
The sanctuary of Wingham
United Church was filled
Sunday night with members
of the Sunday School and
those who had come to watch
them perform in the annual,
Christmas concert. About
130 youngsters, ranging in
age from pre-school to teen
years, took part in the
program. After a proces-
sional carol, "0 Come All
Ye Faithful", and a word
of welcome by the ministei,
the senior Sunday School
(those of elementary school
age) sang a medley of
popular Christmas numbers.
Presentations by each
class followed without an-
nouncement. The nursery
and kindergarten children
caught the admiring at-
tention of all with a
recitation and song. Their
teachers are Mrs. Tracey
deBoer, Mrs. Barbara
Bateman, Mrs. Bev Mc-
Bride, Mrs. Gayle Irvine and
Mrs. Dianne Simpson.
The Grade One class, led
by Mrs. Liz Kernaghan and
Miss•Karen Reid, provided a
Christmas poem, "These
Are Needed", and a carol.
An item of similar nature by
the ' Grade Two class
followed. Teachers for this
group are Mrs. . Ann
Crawford, Annette Carter,
Debbie Hoy and Cheryl
Willis.
Grade Three A, taught by
Mrs. Carol Crawford and
Mrs. Carol Johnstone,
combined efforts with Three
Lisa Baumber and Sheldon Baker of Wingham an-
nounce their engagement. The marriage will take place
Saturday, December 22, with an open reception at the
Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Wingham, starting at 8:30
p.m.
B, taught by Mrs. Sandi
Deslauriers and Miss Lynne
Haines, in a number entitled
"Chimes". "Marvin Mouse.
Reports" was the name of 'a
puppet play presented by the
Grade Fours, led by Mrs.
Eleanor Ward and Mrs.
Betty Shaw. The action was
accompanied by a taped
script.
Teachers Mrs. Evonne
Carter and Mrs. Bea
Chambers then had their
Grade Five class stage a
White Gift play, "Sharing
Our Gifts", at the conclusion
of which all the children of
the Sunday School made
their way tothe stage to
deposit their envelopes in the
manger.
Two final numbers
rounded out the program: a
pantomime called "Peace-
maker" by the Grades Six
and Seven girls, taught by
Mrs. Cheryl McDonald and
Mrs. Audrey Tiffin; and a
combination choral reading
and' ` "Living Chrtstnias
Tree" arrangement entitled
"Keeping Christmas" by the
Grade Eight, confirmation
class led by Rev. J. Rea
Grant.
At the end of the evening,
Mr. Grant acknowledged the
assistance of the teen class
led by Mrs. Gwen Laidlaw
and Grades Six and Seven
boys taught by Gary Mc-
' Cormick and Gary Lisle, in
arranging lights, ushering,
providing stage props and
baby sitting.
Organ accompaniment for
the evening was provided by
Hap Swatridge, organist,
and Mrs. Hilda Grant, who is
also Sunday School coor-
dinator, accompanied num-
bers by the Sunday School at
the piano. The offering will
be forwarded to missionary
projects in Korea, Japan and
Africa.
One of the earliest re-
corded descriptions of maple
sap gathering by Indians
was published in the "Philo-
sophical Transactions of The
Royal Society London,
England in 1684.
