Heading was wrong
on wedding report
As many readers will
already have realized, the
headline on a report of the
wedding between Joan
Marie Higgins and Murray
David James in last week's
edition was incorrect in
identifying it as a Vincent -
James wedding.
We apologize - to the
Higgins and James families
and to our readers for this
unfortunate error.

PROPERTY
ASSESSMENT
and your 1985 Municipal and School Taxes
Regional Offices located throughout Ontario are responsible for assessing all real
property for the purposes of municipal and school taxation.
The resulting Assessment Rolls are delivered to municipalities which use them
to set their mill rates and compute municipal property tax bilks.
The amount of property tax you pay on your home or business depends on the
assessed value and the mill rate set by your municipality. The assessed value
multiplied by the mill rate will determine your 1985 property taxes.
Assessment Information
This is your opportunity to obtain informa-
tion in order to fully understand yourassess-
ment and evaluate its equity.
An assessor will be pleased to explain the
basis of your property assessment and is
authorized to amend any information as may be
necessary until December 17th, priortothe
delivery of the Assessment Roll to your munici-
pality.
If you have any questions, please contact
your Regional Assessment Office at the
address or telephone number shown below.

If, after attending your local Open House, you
are still dissatisfied with your assessment, you
have a right to appeal it to the Assessment
Review Board. The Assessment Review Board
conducts informal hearings and is responsible
for determining whether the assessment under
appeal is fair and equitable with the assess-
ments of similar properties in the vicinity or
neighbourhood, and may alter your assess-
ment accordingly.
Appeal Deadline
The final date for appealing your assessment
is January 9, 1985.
Your appeal must be forwarded, either on a
Notice of Appeal Form or as a letter, to the
Regional Registrar of the Assessment Review
Board on or before January 9, 1985, noting your

trar of the Assessment Review Board are avail-
able at your Regional Assessment Office, or

Creditors approve plan
to refinance the Co-op
All creditors' groups of
United Co-operatives of
Ontario (UCO) gave a
resounding •vote of con-
fidence and support to the
Co-op's new financial plan at
meetings held last Saturday
and - Sunday. in Toronto.
Bob Bethune, interim chief
executive officer, expressed
relief on the results.
"Considerable management
and board time- has been
devoted to the preparations
for these meetings. Now
we'll be able to turn our full
attention to achieving our
business plans.
"Despite our well-
publicized difficulties," he
added, "we have continued
to enjoy solid support from
members and customers and
we certainly thank them for
that support."
Garth MacGirr, president
of Price Waterhouse and
chairman of the creditors'
meetings, said in announcing.
the result that. over 98 per
cent 'acceptance of the plan
of arrangement was given.
"UCO should take con-
siderable pride in the extent
of this support. This amount
is quite unusual and in-
dicates that there are a lot of
people who are wanting UCO
to become successful."
UCO went under court
protection on Aug: 27 of this
year to provide time to
restructure. its financial ar-
rangements. Price Water-
house Ltd. was named inter-
im receiver and administra-
tor. These creditors' meet-
ings were held as required
by the Supreme Court of On-
tario to obtain creditor ap-
proval for the refinancing.
For the .plan of arrange-
ment, as the refinancing
plan is called, to be approved
each creditor group had to
vote in support of the propos-
al — with a majority in num-
bers representing three-
quarters in value of the
creditors of each class at the
meetings in person or by
proxy.
The new financial plan is
scheduled for implementa-
tion on April 1, 1985.
Hirsh Tadman vice
president of finance and
research of the Canadian Co-
operative Credit Society
Ltd., said "Adoption of the'
plan of arrangement is a
crucial first step in UCO's
return to financial heatlh. As
a fellow co-operative, we will
continue to support the ef-
forts of UCO's board of
directors and management
and, as a creditor, we ap-
prove generally of the finan-
cial terms of the agree-
ment."
