Large crowd''attends
bridal gown showing
BRUSSELS — The Mel-
ville Presbyterian Church
hosted a showing of bridal
gowns down through the
years last Friday evening. It
was attended by a large
audience.
Mary Joan Fischer gave a
description of the gowns.
Margaret Shortreed wore
a gown of years ago and
carried an old Eaton's
catalogue. Mrs. Helen Elliott
and Mrs. Jeanne Ireland
were commentators for the
models.
Leanne Armstrong model-
ed Mrs. Leona Armstrong's
grandmother's gown from
1906 and a gown worn by
Alma Watson's aunt in 1912
was modeled by Peggy Mc-
Lellan. Evelyn Mair's moth-
er's gown from 1913 was
worn by Judy TenPas, fol-
lowed by Judy Shortreed's
grandmother's gown from
1916, worn by Joan Clark.
Joanne King wore her own
mother's wedding gown
from 1924 and Hazel
Matheson's gown from 1927
was modeled by Valerie
Shortreed. Ruby Steiss' 1929
gown was worn by her
granddaughter, Sharon
Mann, and Mrs. Armstrong
modeled Leila Johnson's
gown of 1930.
The 1930s were covered
by: 1931, Mary Joan Fischer
in Adeline Smith's gown;
1933, Verna Perrie wearing
her grandmother's Mildred
Perrie's, gown; 1938,
Heather Perrie and Judy
TenPas wore gowns owned
by Freida Pipe and Wilma
Hemingway.
Judy Shortreed wore her
mother's gown from 1940 and
Leanne Armstrong modeled
Ruth Pipe's 1944 gown, while
Brenda Wheeler wore Ethel
Brewer's gown from the
same year.
Marg Sweeney's 1946 gown
was modeled by Cathy
Cardiff and Karla King
modeled Doreen Rutledge's
1947 wedding gown.
Miss McLellan modeled
Mary Campbell's gown from
1949, Judy Work wore
Margaret Work's gown from
the same year and Peggy
Aitchison wore he . her's

solo.
The 1950s started with
Margaret Work wearing a
bridesmaid's dress from
1950 and Leanne Armstrong
wore Dorothy Armstrong's
wedding gown from the
same year. Mary Joan
,Fischer wore a dress from
1952, which belonged to Viola
Adams, and Leona Arm-
strong wore her own wed-
ding gown from 1954.
Mary Douma modeled
Marg Taylor's gown from
1955 and Karla King wore
her mother Joanne's gown
from 1956. Donna Knight
modeled her own 1959 gown.
Judy TenPas wore Mary
TenPas' 1961 gown and
Karla King modeled Sharon
Whittacker's 1964 dress.
Pam McLellan wore Betty
Shaw's 1965 gown, while
Mary TenPas was the
bridesmaid and Marie
Perrie, the groom. Brenda
Wheeler modeled Edith
Pipe's dress from the same
year.

Elizabeth (Exel) Gascho
wore her dress from her
wedding this year.
Rev. Victor Jamieson
congratulated the ladies at
the Sunday service for the
fine showing of wedding
gowns.

Notes from Fordwich
The sympathy of the
community goes to the
family of the late Mrs. Earld
(Pearl) Patterson of
Cambridge and formerly of
Fordwich. Mrs. Patterson
passed away Nov. 7 at the
Golden Years Nursing Home
in Cambridge. Funeral
services were held from the
M. L. Watts Funeral Home in
Gorrie.
A large crowd attended the
benefit . dance last Friday
nightat the Howick Com-
munity Centre for John and
Sharon Armstrong and
family who recently lost
their barn to fire.
Best wishes are extended
to Mr. and Mrs. Anson
Ruttan on their 40th wedding
anniversary. They, were
entertained by their family
and friends at their home
last Sunday.

project has prevented The Advance -Times

regarding their positions on the issue of open
meetings.

or to contact their local representatives to
discuss this ,and other issues related to the

represent.

The following board members are elected
for two-year terms at the annual meetings of
the hospital association :
Wingham: Ross Davies, 357-3630, 357-
3046; Roger Keay, 357-2195; Bob Middleton,
357-1411, 357-1232; John Schenk, 357-1990,
MRS. SHARON DOBSON of RR 1, Formosa, attended last Thursday's tea and
bake sale at the Wingham Salvation Army Citadel with her sons Ryan and Roy.
The boys each had a glass of juice and a sandwich while their mother had a hot
cup of coffee.

Belrnore Personal Notes
The Belmore arena now is
ready for action thanks to
the men who volunteered
their time to put the ice in
and paint the lines.
Hockey practices were
held last week and the
Midget boys played their
first home game of the
season against Teeswater.
The team played well and
even though they were short
on players, still managed to
tie the strong Teeswater
squad 6-6.
Belmore goals were scored
by Brian Mulvey assisted by
Ron Strome and Rob
Haelzle, Randy Schaefer
assisted by Ted Fischer,
Schaefer from Rob Gallaher,
Fischer unassisted, Schaefer
assisted by Ron Chambers
and Schaefer assisted by
Fischer.

The Belmore Pee Wees
open their schedule with;
their first home game• .this
Thursday evening at 7,
The Intermediate men's
team, better known as the
"Bandits", started its season
with ' a couple of wins:
Belmore 10 and Fordwich 1
and Belmore 10, Wroxeter 6.
The figure skating club is
off 'to a good start with 52
skaters taking to the ice last
Tuesday evening. A class of
beginners, ranging in age
from two and one-half years
to six, made their club debut.
The skaters are coached by
Mrs. Faye MacDonald of
Brussels and Mrs. Olive'
Jeffray of Belmore. The
skaters will be very busy for
the next few weeks, practis-
ing their Christmas carnival
which will -take place
'Saturday, Dec. 15.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Chambers attended the
Royal Winter Fair last
Thursday and came home
with some well-deserved
prizes for their rabbits in the
Single Fryer Class.
A good number of Belmore
residents attended the
Howick Legion dance last
Saturday evening in the
Howick Community Centre.
Visitors last Saturday
evening with Mr. and Mrs.
John Wilhelm were Mr. and
Mrs. John Lobsinger of
Sudbury, Mr. and Mrs. Ron
Shore of Oakville, Mr. and
Mrs. Dave Wendt of Mild-
may and Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Fitch.
Donna Jeffray spent the
weekend with Eileen Darling
off Stratford.
The November meeting of
the Belmore Chamber of
Commerce was held last
Wednesday evening in the
library. President Bob
Raper chaired the meeting
and the secretary, Ivan
Dane, read the October
minutes, gave a financial
report and presented the
bills. Preliminary plans
were discussed for the an-
nual meeting, which will be
held Jan. 9. Several items oi
business were discussed
before the meeting ad-
journed. The next meeting
will be held Dec. 5.
Sunday visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. Elmer Haskins
were Mr. and Mrs. Mel
Dennis, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan
Haskins of Gorrie and Mr.
and Mrs. Herb Clayton of
Wingham.
Several members of the
Belmore community at-
tended Remembrance Day
services for the Howick
Legion at the Fordwich
Anglican Church • and
cenotaph on Sunday.
Mrs. Doug McPherson is
spending a few days with her
father, Ernest Dagg at
Campbell's Bay, Quebec.
The .Belmore ladies'
hockey team started its
season with an exciting
game last Saturday in
Wingham, ending in a 2-2 tie.
Belmore goals were scored
by Tracy Schefter and
Cheryl McDonald. The next
game is scheduled for this
Saturday in Belmore against
'Tiverton at 4 p.m.
Mr., Mrs. Deitner
residing near Ethel
Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Francis Deitner are residing
at RR 1, 'Ethel, following
their marriage at three
o'clock on October. 20 in St.
Ambrose Roman Catholic
Church, Brussels. Rev. Stan
Soltysik of Wingham per-
formed the ceremony and
organist was Mrs. Pat Nolan
of Walton. Special music was
provided by agroup com-
posed of the groom's nieces,
brother-in-law and sister.
Mrs. Deitner is the former
Joan Elizabeth Simpson,
daughter 'of Roberta and
John Simpson of Brussels.
The groom is a son of
Josephine Deitner of RR 1,
Ethel, and the late Charles
Deitner.
The bride's floor -length
gown was trimmed with lace
on the bodice, sleeves,
hemline and short train. She
carried a basket containing
silk flowers, with the handle
trimmed with Scots Hunti
Fraser tartan.

baskets similar to that
carried by the bride.
Ronald J. Deitner, twin
brother of the groom, of RR
2, Petersburg, was best man
and ushering guests were
Raymond Deitner, brother of
the groom, of Waterloo and
Timothy Craig, cousin of the
bride, of Ottawa.
A •reception was held at
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre, where
guests were received by the
bride's mother who wore a
street -length blue dress and
the groom's mother who
chose a .navy blue suit with
matching hat. For travelling
throughout Ontario, the
bride wore a rust suit.
Guests attended the
wedding from. Ottawa,
'Barrie, Formosa, Stratford,,
Goderich and the area
surrounding Brussels.
