Bastion is a little boy try-
ing desperately to keep his
world from falling apart.
Saddened by the death of his
mother and prodded by his
father to get • on with the
business of living, Bastion is
consistently late for school
or skipping it altogether,
neglecting to do his home-
work and not performing
well in class. If those were
not problems enough, Bas-
tion is picked on by a trio of
bullies who taunt and tease
him and throw him into a
garbage bin.
Into Bastion's hands falls
"The Never Ending Story"
and he is transported into.
Fantasia, taking with him
movie audiences who share
his fantasies in this magical
film which was produced in
Munich, Germany. This
'movie, which will soon make
the rounds in Western, On-
tario, is a treat for the entire
family, indeed with many
similarities to the all time
• favorite family movie, "E.T.
- The Extra -Terrestrial".
With the reader himself
faced with the awesome task
of saving Fantasia from ex-
tinction, the book becomes a
kingdom filled 'with lovable
creatures that fly or sneeze
or eat rocks; a predatory
wolf -like monster and an
invisible enemy called "The
Nothing", symbolic of the
emptiness experienced by so
many people who let them-
selves drown in a sea of sad-
ness; who pass by a world of
possibilities because they
feel they are no, longer use-
ful; who lack self-confi-
dence; or who simply let go
of their hopes and dreams.
This enchanting little film
is filled with fantastic spe-
cial effects, majestic music
and beautiful scenery. It is a
great movie for you and your
child to see together and dis-
cuss together - so he may
never be ashamed of his

The entire world off the arts
is. this week mourning the
death of one of its finest the-
atre actors, Richard Burton,
who died suddenly in Switz-
erland after suffering a
brain hemorrhage at the age
of 58. On stage, Burton was
without equal. His eloquent
British accent delivered the
words of Shakespeare mag-
nificently and words of poet-
ry came to life as they were
uttered by this great man.
He was particularly fond of
the works of his fellow
Welshman, Dylan Thomas.
Unfortunately, it was not
Burton's , fine work that
made him famous, as much
as his fiery relationship with
Elizabeth Taylor, with whom
he co-starred in the multi-
million dollar loser at the
box office, "Cleopatra". He
divorced , his first wife to
marry Taylor and after a
divorce and marriage to an-
other, he married her a sec-
ond time. But, though they
could never be completely
happy without each other,
neither could they be happy
together. Life in the fast lane
ruined Burton's health and
he faded into relative ob-
scurity. He is survived by his
fifth wife, Sally Hay, and a
daughter Kate is carving out
an acting career of her own
on the stage.
Another fine\ British actor,
James Mason, died in Switz-
erland after suffering a
heart attack. After making
his acting debut on stage in
the 30s, he came to Holly-
wood and -impressed the
world with fine films over a
period of 50 years. His most
famous role was that of an
aging star who discovers a
new young actress in "A Star
Is Born", in which he starred
with Judy Garland. He was
75 at the time of his death.
