HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Wingham Advance-Times, 1984-08-15, Page 2Page 2—The Wmgham Advance -Times, Aug 15, 1984 Donald Procter, Marlene McGee are married in country setting In a picturesque country wedding held Saturday, July 21, at 2:30 p.m., Marlene Louise McGee of RR 3, Wingham, and Donald George Procter of RR 4, Brussels, exchanged their vowe. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George McGee, of RR 3, Wingham, e and the groom is the son of Mrs. Dorothy Procter, RR 4, Brussels, and the late Wilbur Procter. No wedding would be complete without flowers in the church. Two ` altar candelabra of black wrought iron stood at the front of the church, decorated with pink and mauve roses, lilies and forget-me-nots cascading around pink candles in glass globes. Each aisle was enhanced by a single can- delabrum sporting blue forget-me-nots, white car- nations and ivy trailing from around a glass-globed candle and each was joined to the next' by 'three wide ribbon streamers, creating a setting for a very special occasion. Rev. John G. Roberts of Belgrave performed the double -ring ceremony. Mrs. Winona Thompson of RR 5, Wingham, was organist, playing traditional music. She accompanied the soloist, Miss Pam Shaw of Belgrave, who sang "Can't Help Falling in Love With You", "O Perfect Love", "We've Only Just Begun" and "Hawaiian Wedding Song" and played a flute solo, "You Light Up My Life". The sun filtered softly through multi -colored panes of glass and everything was quiet except for the birds chirping in trees surround- ing the Belgrave United Church. As the ceremony began, the groom arid his best man, his brother, Murray Procter of Ailsa Craig, and the ushers, Jim _ McGee of RR 3, Wingham, brother of the bride, and Ron Nicholson of Barrie, friend of the groom, took their places at the front of the church. The bridesmaids, Mrs. Linda Logan of Wyoming, Ontario, and Mrs. Marian Strauss of Waterloo, sisters of the bride, then appeared, wearing floor -length gowns of blue jersey, with fitted chiffon bodices and peplums; deep ruffles around lace insets and Victorian necklines. They carried delicately -crafted blue parasols ---highlighted by roses, mini tiger lilies and gypsophila. The flower girl, Miss Jackie Strauss of Waterloo, niece of the bride, was next, wearing a long white gown with high Victorian neckline and double ruffles around the hemline and up the back of the skirt. She also carried a parasol, although daintier in size, with tucks and ruffles to match those of the bridesmaids and a spray of flowers. She was ac- companied down the aisle by the ringbearer, Robbie McGee, nephew of the bride, who carried a heart -shaped pillow with a mini corsage in pink roses, forget-me-nots and baby's breath. The matron of honor, Mrs. Chris McGee of RR 3, Wingham, sister-in-law of the bride, preceded the bride down the aisle. She wore a pink floor -length jersey gown styled similarly to the Gary Moon Photo Owing to conditions beyond their control the Officers and Directors of the Wingham Horticultural Society have decided thlt THE ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW scheduled for SAT., AUG. 18th, 1984 is CANCELLED We feel that this is in the best interests of all concerned. The bride then appeared on her father's arm, looking lovely weariTng a floor -length gown of white chiffon over taffeta, sheer sleeves with lace cuffs, fitted bodice featuring lace and seed pearl trim, with gathered chiffon open neckline. Deep ruffles around the bottom fell into a full train. She wore a chiffon hat with lace crown trimmed with seed pearls and turned up at one side with small chiffon rosettes. She carried a bouquet of cascading pink roses, ivory mini carnations, ivy and baby's breath surrounding a single large cattelya orchid in pinks and mauves. The bride was given in marriage by her parents. The bride's mother was wearing a street -length chemise dress of dusty rose crepe with long sleeves and a corsage of lilac mini lilies, white, zinnias and- baby's breath. The groom's mother wore a street -length rose pink crepe dress with long sleeves and a con°sege of pink roses. Ralph Logan, brother-in-law of the bride, was master of ceremonies. A reception was held in the evening at the Blyth Com- munity Centre where Peter Bauer of Wingham provided music. The bridal couple left for a honeymoon to Niagara Falls and area, the bride wearing a light beige summer suit with coordinating blouse, colored scarf and shoes and handbag to match. She wore a corsage of silk flowers in pastel colors. They will reside on the groom's farm at RR 4, Brussels. Guests attended from Barrie, Owen Sound, Walkerton, Seaforth, St. Marys, London, Dorchester., Brantford, Wyoming, Toronto, Waterloo, Halton Hills and surrounding area. • GOING TO GUELPH—The joint Gorrie-Wroxeter to itRd •€hurch congregations expressed appreciation Lloyd Martin and Mrs. Martin at a farewell service July 29. Mr. Martin's new charge is a storefront church in Guelph. . Rev. and Mrs. Martin bid farewell by both congregations Rev. Lloyd B. Martin's farewell service took place in Wroxeter United Church on Sunday July 29, Mr. Mar- tin preached to his joint Gorrie-Wroxeter congrega- tions and visitors prior to his moving to a new charge in Guelph. The organ prelude, played by Mrs. Betty Wright was followed by the call to wor- ship and the hymn "Praise My Soul". The. Old Testament lesson, responsive psalm and New Testament lesson were fol- lowed by the prayer of thanksgiving, intercession and Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Wright, accompanied by Art Gibson at the piano, played "Bless This House" Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Doig are residing in Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Doig are residing at 412 Highland Drive, Wingham, following their marriage on July 14 at five o'clock in St. John's Anglican Church, Smiths Falls. Rev. John Salmon was the officiating clergyman at an altar surrounded by fresh gladioli. Satin bows marked the' guest pews. Mrs. Doig, the . former Susan Pringle, is the daughter of Donna Egan of Smiths Falls and the late John' Pringle. The groom's parents are Ronald and Joan Doig, Molesworth. The bride was given in marriage by her brother, David Pringle. • The bride chose a floor - length old-fashioned gown of white, styled with high lace neckline and yoke trimmed with seed pearls. The long sleeves were trimmed with lace, appliqued lace trim- med the front of the skirt and a wide lace band edged the hemline of the skirt which fell into a long train accented with rows of lace. She wore a lace cap trimmer: with seed pearls from which flowed a fingertip veil and she carried a trailing bouquet of car- nations, dusty mauve Sweetheart roses and baby's. breath. The bride's sister-in-law, Nancy Pringle of Frankville, was matron of honor and bridesmaids were Karen Brown of Listowel, sisterof the groom, and Marg Egan of Smiths Falls, step -sister of the bride. They wore floor - length gowns of pale dusty pink covered by long-sleeved jackets with ruffled collars. Their bouquets contained flowers similar to those in the bridal bouquet, Kevin Doig of Molesworth was his brother's best man and serving as ushers were Paul Pringle, brother of the bride, of Brockville and Rick Boyd of Listowel, a friend of the groom. ,Guests from Richmond Hill, Manotick, Arnprior, Ottawa, North Bay, Merrickville, Maitland, Listowel, Wingham and Molesworth attended a reception held at the Smiths Falls Golf and Country Club. An honored guest was Mrs. S. Pringle, the bride's grandmother. l thing - the wedding, special music was provided by organist Mrs. M. Hewitt and soloists Jane Wilson and Rosemary Kocher. For the special day, the bride's. mother wore a dress of ivory sheer crepe with a jacket designed with lace yoke and ruffled collar. Matching accessories and a corsage of orange miniature roses. completed her ensemble. The groom's mother chose a dusty rose long-sleeved coat dress with a corsage off pink miniature roses and white baby mums. When the couple left on their honeymoon, the bride was wearing an off-white skirt and blazer with dusty rose blouse and a corsage of dusty mauve Sweetheart roses. The choir, with Gordon Kaster and Theron Riley playing guitars, sang a med- ley of hymns in lieu of the us- ual anthem. This was fol- lowed by the hymn "Now Thank We All Our God" sung by choir and congregation. Mr. Martin chose "Going Fishing" for his sermon top- ic, referring to his new "Storefront" charge where he will be "Going Fishing" for new members. Mrs. Martin was called to the front of the church where Russell Lockwood, Wrox- eter, read an address and Lorne Robinson, Gorrie, pre- sented an inscribed picture of a country scene to Mr. Martin and an inscribed hymnal to Mrs. Martin in ap- preciation of their three years leadership and friend- ship. The choir sang "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" and all retired to the lower hall for refreshments and fellowship. - Mr. Martin's new charge is the storefront church in the Westwood Court Plaza at Westwood and Willow roads, Guelph. The Gorrie-Wrox- eter congregations' loss ' is their gain. The local community wishes Mr: Martin and his family all the best in their new home. Rev. Larry Welch is in charge of church services at the United Church for the month of August and the Presbyterians share the worship service. Mr. and Mrs. Alex MacTavish hosted a family picnic for the Walker relatives July 29 and en- tertained the MacTavish side ata picnic Aug. 5. Mrs. Marjorie Steckley is in charge of the Bluevale library. Mrs. Wes Paulin was transferred from Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, to the Wingham hospital last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Skinn and Nanci, Marie and Kevin Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walker were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Elliott, Shawnda and Derek Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Kelvin FischeteSandy and Steven, also 'd tied at the same home. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walker visited last Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Higgins.
