PattisOfl digs in hospital passes a " a brief iliness Passed away at. St. Joseph's Hospital, London, on Monday, July 2, Mrs. Cecil Cullers of Fordwich, in her 57th year.. Mrs. Cullen was the former Agnes Ruth Heise and was the dear daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Henry Heise of Stouffville. She was predeceased by her husband on.May 29, 1982. Left to mourn her passing, besides her parents, are one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Catherine) Reaman of Burks Falls; two sons, Ken - of Calgary and Gerald, Stratford; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchil- dren. Friends paid their respects, at the Gorrie Chapel of M. L. Watts Funeral Homes until Friday, July 6, when removal was made to the Brethren -In -Christ Church, Fordwich, where , funeral service was conducted at 11 o'clock by Jesse Bawel. Her final resting place is Heise Hill Cemetery, Gormley: Pallbearers were Ted Klaassen, Gordon Strickley, Herman Oldengarm, Ken Vines, Bob Gibson and Carl Hogg. Brussels resident dies at her home A resident of the village of Brussels, Mrs. William Elwoxd...(Dick) McQuarrie, passed away at her home on Princess Street on Friday, June 29. The former Helen Jean Nigh, a daughter of the late Patrick Nigh and Helen Bettes, Mrs. McQuarrie is survived by her husband; son Bill and his wife Fran of Calgary; and two grand- children, Mary Joan and Michael. There are three sisters, Margaret Freeman of Clinton, Betty Salisbury of Seaforth and Mrs. Pete (Ruth) Horne, Mitchell; and t wee brothers, Louis, Joe and Robert Nigh, all of Seaforth. There was no funeral home visitation. Funeral service was conducted at 2:30 on Monday, July 2, at the Brussels Chapel of M. L. Watts Funeral Homes by Rev. Robin Lyons': She was carried to her final resting place in Brussels Cemetery by Dick Stephenson, Gary Freeman, Bob Hollenbeck, Danny Adams, 'Wayne Hoy and Jim Nigh. Service Saturday for Mrs. Ovington Funeral service was held Saturday, July 7, at the Brussels Chapel of M. L. Watts Funeral Homes for Mrs. Samuel J. Ovington of Brussels, formerly of Wroxeter. Rev. Charles , Carpentier conducted the two o'clock service and the graveside service in Brussels Cemetery where Ethel deItl1` t a area families Mrs. Ovington was laid to rest. Pallbearers were Sid, Rick, Keith and Brian White, Reg Watson and Art Gibson. Flower . bearers were Carl Bondi, Murray McNichol, Ross Somers and Jack McWhirter. Mrs. Ovington was the former - Mary Elizabeth Alcock, daughter of the late Richard Alcock and Mary Jane Alcock. She passed away in' Wingham 'and too- District Hospital on July 5 in , her 80th year. Her husband predeceased her in 1961. family• and friends this week feel a sense of Was due to the passing of John Wesley Pattison of 212 Minnie Street, Wingham, at Wingham and District Hospital on Friday, July 6. He was in his 69th year and death followed a brief illness. John Pat' on was born September 1915, to J. Edgar Pattison and his wife, Catherine. They predeceas- ed him in 1958 and 1961 re- spectively. John was born and raised at 212 Minnie Street, Wingham. Three years after his birth a sister was born, Laura May, who is now deceased (1965) . John grew up in the depression and since there was not a job to be found, he continued to go to school as long as he could. He attended the Wingham Public and Wingham High Schools. It was in high school that he started building crystal sets, short wave receivers and his own telephone lines. When school ended, John took a correspondence course with the Radio College of Canada and in the fall of 1935, at the age of 20, he started the business that was later to become Pattison Radio and 'Electric. He operated the business from his parents' home and also worked as a projectionist at the Lyceum Theatre. His career was interrupted in 1942 by the war. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was sent to the Families ,in the Brussels - Ethel area were saddened last week with the passing of Wilfred Howard Keffer of Ethel on June 30 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. Mr. Keffer was 76 years of age andis survived by his wife, the former Marjorie Brown; one son, Alex of Brussels; one daughter, Mrs. Stan (Rita) Morrison, RR 1, Fullai�ton; five grandchildren' and three great-grandchildren. There are four brothers, Dick of Dornocir, Ralph, Brussels, Fred and Lloyd, `Ethel. He 'was predeceased by one son in infancy and one brother. After resting at the Brussels Chapel of the M. L. Watts Funeral Homes, funeral service was con- ducted by Rev. Stanley McDonald on Tuesday, July 3, at one o'clock. Interment' followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel Six nephews, Larry, Danny,' Murray, Robbie, Randy and 'Chris Keffer, served as pallbearers. PEOPLE WE KNOW Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Laycock, Waterdown, were guests of Jim and Leona Armstrong and family recently. Clem McLellan has returned home following an 11 -day stay at Wingham and London hospitals. A miscellaneous shower will be held July 24 in the Anglican church for Brenda McCutcheon. In 1953 he opened a new store across the street and on August 2, '1975, after 40 successful years in business, John Pattison retired. In 1997 John started writing a ewspaper column of hist ical facts about Wingham's past. Thiswas to help publicize the Wingham and District Museum and these columns provided the groundwork for his book, Museum Musings, published in 1982. Prior to his death, he was continuing his research on a variety of subjects of local interest, including early Wingham doctors, the Wingham hospital, town hall and the upper dam. Following publication of his book, John received many requests from relatives and descendants of former residents, seeking in- formation on their roots. Swan of Hanover was celebrated 'at St. James' Anglican Church, Hanover, on July 5 at 11 a.m. with the Rt. Rev. Morse Robinson, Suffragan Bishop of Huron, as officiant and celebrant, assisted by Rev. Paul Link - later, rector oT 'St. James; Rev. Robin Lyons, regional dean of the .South Saugeen Deanery; the Ven. C. Robert Townshend, archdeacon of the .Saugeens, and Rev. Lloyd G. Cracknell of London. Organist and choir. - director ' was Marilyn Bridges and choirs com- posed of church members from Durham, Wingham and Hanover assisted. A special hymn, "0 Jesu Most Kind", which was composed by Rev. Swan, was sung. Dr. Stewart Anderson. He was a life member of the Wingham and District Hospital Associa- tion, belonged to the Loyal Orange Lodge and was active in the Royal Canadian Legion, having served as president of Wingham Branch 180, secretary of the zone executive and secretary -treasurer for the district. He also spent five years on the Public Utilities Commission. On August 23, 1954, in' London, John married the former Amelia Willert. She survives to mourn his passing as do two children, Mrs. Jan (Katherine) Vanderhorst of Kitchener and Jim of Toronto. He was also loved by his only grandson, Peter Jnhn. Friends paid their respects at The Currie -Walker Funeral Home, Wingham, until Monday when service was conducted at two o'clock by Capt. Borden Linkletter. Final resting place is Wingham Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Cruikshank, Ernest Eaton, John Bateson, Fred Lewis, Bob Pike and Scott Reid. Floral tributes were carried - by Pat Bailey and Gord Buchanan. R. John Currie was an honorary pallbearer. Casket bearers were Rev. Douglas Madge, Rev. Canon Reg Warner, Rev. "Robert Cracker, Rev. Peter Townshend, Rev. Edward Hackbusch and Msgr. John Newstead. Other clergy present and members of the Hanover Branch 130 Royal Canadian Legion formed a guard of honor at the church and the cemetery. Piper Jack Harris played laments at the graveside. The crucifer was Greg Peach and candle bearers were Julia and Alison Dearing. Interment took place in , the Hanover Cemetery. Prior to the service, the late Rev. Swan rested at the Richardson Allard Funeral Home, 490 Tenth Avenue, Hanover, where the Masonic Lodges and Royal Canadian Legion held memorial services Tuesday evening. Earl Desmond dies in his 84th year Passed away at Wingham and District Hospital on Friday, July 6, Earl Desmond -of Wingham, formerly of Pinkerton, in his 84th year. Born in Pinkerton, he was a son of the late John and Mary (O'Connor) Desmond. , He was the dear brother of Humphrey of Detroit, Charles of Teeswater, Dennis, Pinkerton,' and Mrs. Jim (Patricia) Gibbon`s, Wingham. He is also sur- vived by several nieces and, nephews. He was predeceas- ed by two sisters, Bridget Desmond in infancy and Mrs. Joseph (Mary Ann) Brophy; and two brothers,- John and Frank Desmond. Mass of the Christian Burial took place in Mary Immaculate Roman Catholic Church, Chepstow, on Satur- day, July 7, at 11:30 a.m. Rev. F..Hinsperger officiat- ed. Interment followed in Mary Immaculate Ceme- tery, Chepstow. Pallbearers were Frank Gibbons of London, Warren and Danny Weber of Stratford, Jerry, Brophy and Joe White of Wingham and Steve Walters, Teeswater. Flowers were carried to the. graveside by John, and James Gibbons and Jackie \Brophy. Children of Ulmont Moore mourn death of family head The family of Ulmont Andrew Moore Of Wroxeter are this week Mourning the' passing of their father which tdok place at Palmerston and District Hospital on July 1. He was in his 75th year. Mr. Moore was predeceas- ed by Dorothy Eckenswiller in 1978. He is survived by his family, Agnes Hetsler of Wingham, Mrs. Steve (Shir- ley) Hamilton, Ear Falls, Mrs. Leonard (Pauline) Bates, Hesson, Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Broome, Ear Falls, Frank of Drayton, Walter, Whitechurch, Joseph and Charles of Wroxeter; also Mrs. Joyce Moore, RR 1, Elmwood, and Willys Kalish, Wroxeter.
