Swan Many friends in this area are mourning the end of a life of service to God and his fellowman, with the passing this week of Rev. John Towler Maurice Swan of Hanover, formerly of Wingham. Mr. Swan passed •away Monday, July 2, at Hanover and District Hospital after a lengthy struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He was in his 61st year. Mr: Swan was born in Cornwall on August 23, 1923, to the late William Swan and 'Be`ssie Priddle. His service in the Anglican Church of Canada began in 1950 when he was ordained a deacon. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1951. He served as assistant curate at Trinity Anglican Church, Cam- bridge (G), and Christ Anglican Church, Ayr, then served as rector at St. Thomas The Apostle Anglican Church, Cam- bridge (G), St. Alban Anglican Church, , London, St. James Anglican Church, Hanover C1962-1974), Angli- can churches at Cottam and Essex and ;his last charge which included St. Paul's An- glican Church, Wingham, and Trinity Anglican Church Belgrave (1977-1983). He re- tired in June of last year and he and his wife /moved to Hanover. During his years in Hanover, Mr,. Swan was active in municVal politics, serving as councillor, deputy reeve and mayor of the town from 1971 to 1973. He was a former chaplain of the Hanover branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member , of ,the Hanover Masonic Lodge and brothers from both groups held memorial services Tuesday evening at the funeral home. While he was a resident of Wingham, he was also active in the life of the town,where he served on town council and in other organizations. He was an inspiration to Many local friends as he fought his debilitating illness and maintained a positive outlook on life, sharing his strong faith with all he met. - Mr. Swan will be fondly remembered and missed by .-. Mrs. Olive Boss was a native of Belmore Mrs. Mary Olive Boss of Copeland Lodge, formerly of 345 Edward Street, Wingham., passed away Tuesday, June 26, at the Wingham and District Hospital. She was in her 87th year and death followed a lengthy illness. Mrs. Boss was born. at .Belmore on March 8, 1898, and was the former Olive .Terriff, a daughter of the late Peter Terriff and Lexay ' MacGregor, Besides her parents, she was prede- ceased by three brothers, Duncan, Frank and Mal- cola; two sisters, Flora and 'Kathleen; and her stepfath- er, Malcolm .Ross., ,,,Mrs. Boss married Charles Talbert (Tollie) Boss in Whitechurch on October 8,. 1958. Less than one year later, on July 8, 1959, she was bereaved by his passing. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sig (Adeline) Foien of - Mississauga; seven nieces and five nephews. After attending SS No. 10, Kinloss, and receiving her secondary school educctiena—S at the Wingham High School, "'Mrs. Boss entered the 'Wingham General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a private -duty nurse for Many years. As long as her health permitted, she was a faithful member of Wingham United Church. She was also a life member of .the United, Church Women and belonged ' to the Women's Institute. Rev. J. Rea Grant 'of- ficiated officiated for the complete funeral and . committal service ,at The Currie - Walker Funeral Home, . Wingham, on Thursday,. 'June 28, at two o'clock. Lifelong Morris Twp. resident dies in 93rd year Cecil Wilkinson Wheeler of Blyth died June 20 at the home of his daughter in London. Mr. Wheeler was a former reeve of Morris 'Township. He farmed near his parents' homestead on the fourth line until moving to Blyth in 1948. He was predeceased in 1929 by his, first wife, Edna candrett of Belgrave, mother of his three surviving daughters,' Mrs. Bernard (Nora P Crellin of London, Mrs. Laurence (Ruth) Davis of Brampton and Mrs. Bert .(Many) Turner of Abbots- ford, B..C. He is also survived., by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was 'als'o predeceased by her two bothers, James Barbour ' and Elwood Barbour, and one sister, Ethel Culbert. Lovejoy Kadungure and Munamato Mangobe lunched with Rita Rice and the other people at the day cen- tre last Tuesday to get the inside story on the centre.
