I sil fitly creptd and hid behind the black chair, "Oh boy," I whispered. Then I saw Santa I jumped out and said, "Surprise." He was shocked, "Go to bed," he cried! I sa_w___him put something black in my stocking. Vihen I got up in the morning I saw a piece of coal in my stocking. I cried all morning. After I cried I said, "Santa is mean. - My mom said he was only joking. I looked back in my stocking. There was a big candy cane. I was happy. Now I like Santa. Scott Garrow Age:" 9 Robertson M.P.S. Grade 4 THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS On the 25th . day of December, we celebrate_ the birth day of our Lord. • On this day tire Messiah was born to save our sins. We celebrate this day to show our thankfulness to God for his love to us.-.___- • Christmas is not all Santa Claus and presents as some - people think. A gift -more precious than ever received on 'Christmas Day, was given to us 2,000 years ago in a manger. This gift was the Messiah, God's only begotten son, who came into V -ie world to save our sins. This is the -- true meaning of Christmas. What a hectic shopping spree she'd had, pushing through crowds and encountering the one- week -before -Christmas rush. Mrs. Preston stepped on Max's paw, the -terrier yiped and wallet and packages went sprawling. Max sheepishly retired to his basket retrieving the interesting wallet. Max was delighted with his fabulous find and intrigued with smell. Max hid his treasure under his basket's cushion. Mrs. - Preston groaned while collecting strewn packages. She shrieked at outrageous bills from Zellers and Woolco. Just as Mrs. Preston was . recuperating with a cup of tea the doorbell rang. The postman set C.O.D. packages in the door-. He tapped his foot im- patiently as Mrs. Preston searched frantically for the wallet. Mrs.` Preston hunted feverishly in purses, pockets, everywhere. She desperately dialed her husband's office requesting his presence. He fervently explained to that conditions at the office wouldn't permit him home. Mrs. Preston told of her plight to the postman who continued sighing and tapping his foot. This was too much Mrs. Preston sank down in the sofa and burst into tears. Max tiptoed in the livingroom gingerly with the valuable wallet clutched in his jaws. Wagging his tail exur- bura-ntly he dropped ,the wallet at Mrs. Prestons feet. Max was disap- pointed after finding that the wallet was lifeless and tasteless. Mrs. Preston hollered in surprise and hurriedly paid the impatient postman. Later as the family gathered around the dinner table, Mrs. Preston smiled, Max is right, we can enjoy the festive season without being spend -thrifts. Let's simply enjoy ourselvg by being jolly together. Max grinned an his eyes rested on the allet on the desk.
