SECTION THREE
Crafty Santa makes gifts for children
Here' am, once again,
sitting in my old rockii g
chair watching dollar
signs pass before my eyes
as Christmas slowly
approaches.
With inflation and all I
was wondering how I was
going to afford to buy
presents for kids all over
the world. Billions of
children will be waiting
for my arrival on
Christmas Eve lout only
Toys from scrap
If I were Santa and things as possible, as I
inflation came about, I can but of scraps I have.
would be in amess. What Then comes the point
will I do with all those where some toys have to
bought. Well I have
exactly $10,695 to spend, I
will get as much done • as
possible with the money I
have'. I'm sure that won't
look after all the people in
the world. Well maybe I
can just send them letters
telling what happened
and tell them that when
the prices go down I will
send them a little
something later on..,.

happy girls and boys?
When inflation was the
big news in December of
1979. I thought I had
better hurry and try to
get as many toys and
other kinds of gifts made
so I can have a full sled
this Christmas.
Before I had even half
of what I needed made
inflation was here and
prices were rising. What
will I do? I know. I will
make as many simple
half will be presented
with gifts. ...
I sat there for the rest
of, the night thinking
about this problem. •
I was awakened when
the sun shone on my face
the next morning. I had
fallen asleep in my
rocking chair last night
but I hadn't forgotten my
problem and I was
worried sick for
Christmas was only two
days away!
I finally decided to tell
my problem to my wife,
Mrs. Claus. She was
shocked atme for saying
thele was something I
couldn't do.
"You can do anything if
you really want to," she
said. "The store keepers
know you do alot of
shopping around.
Christmas .Time so they
raise the prices and make
money. Silly man, make
the toys. 'They don't raise.
hardly ,anything but the.
toys, crafts, etc. If you
buy all the materials you
need, you'll find you will
only pay half the cost,
understand?"
I knew exactly what
she meant and I went
right to work. I bought all
the materials I needed
without any trouble.
When i got back I
gathered up my elves and
developed a work party.
Could we get done on
time?
The clock struck 8:00
p.m. and we just got
finished the last hono-lulu
doll.
We went to each house
and down each chimney
until we had been in
every house all over the
world. Hopefully, we will
see lower prices next
year but if not I will do
the sameas this year only
start a bit sooner.

Santa may be selling out
L M..1 .
Since O'aiieryone is aware
of inflation, and are
always wondering how
they are going to put up
with it have you ever
thought what Santa is
going to do this year? You
know he has to take gifts
to all the good little
children around the world
and I wonder how much
he spends? With inflation
rising every year; it must
be difficult to be Santa
Clause. If I was Santa
Clause, I would probably
•
retire, but that wouldn't
settle anything. Could
you see all the sad little
children and their
parents on Christmas
morning if Santa Clause
didn't come? And I would
have to sell my reindeer
and my sleigh for they
wouldn't be any good to
me anymore and my
elves would be out of a job
and they don't even get
unemployment in-
surance. I Woaidn't be
able to go to Jamaica in
the summer for t
wouldn't have enough
money. No it's just not
worth all that suffering. I
guess if I was Santa I
would give each one
something, maybe not
exactly what they asked
for, but as close as I could
without going over my
budget. After all it is not
the value of the gift but
the thought that counts.
So if you don't get exactly,
what you wanted for
turn to 4$B
