AND A PRACTICAL GIFT IS USED ALL YEAR LONG Toys are at the .ROM Christmas morning delights of yesteryear are presented in a small seasonal exhibit at the Canadiana Building of the Royal Ontario Museum from December 1 to January 7, 1980. The special display features typical late 19th century toys: dolls and doll furniture, building. blocks, gaily painted model boats and pull toys. One of the items in the display is a "shoofly" rocker; this two -side type of rocking horse was first made by an American toymaker named Jesse Crandall in 1859 and proved. a popular and safe rocker for toddlers. Here's a new party game This • game can be played with any number of people. It's fun for the whole family or just a few friends, A word that describes an action is galled an 'adverb'. The word 'slowly' is an ad- verb because it describes how a person walks or talks. Nobody losesor. win's in this game. HOW TO PLAY 1. One person leaves the room for a few minutes. 2. The people in the room think up an adverb. 3. The person who has left the room, comes back in and asks questions about anything at all. 4. The other people answer the questions and talk in the manner of the adverb. 5. The person who has left the room tries to guess what the adverb is. Sometimes this takes a very short • time,- and sometimes it takes about five -minutes. EXAMPLE The person who has been picked to leave the' room is you. While you are out, the people in the room think up the adverb 'sadly'. But you don't know that because you weren't there. When you -come back into the room you have to guess what the adverb they chose is. You ask a person any question you want, such as. "What do you think of flowers?" That person v411 answer you in the saddest way possible; and may even pretend to cry. It won't take long to guess the word "sadly". Some adverbs that are fun to,act out,and guess are: crazily, angrily, shyly, dreamily, laughingly, and quickly. .You can used any adverb you like. Yours, Victoria Walter Celebrate birthday BY BETTY JANE FORAN AND LINDA SINNETT Kindergarden and Grade 1 students at St. Joseph's. School, Kingsbridge celebrated Brian Olson's birthday on Wednesday. They also made costumes for the Christmas concert by themselves. Grade 2 students had breakfast at school on Tuesday morning as part of their reading and nutrition program. The senior girls finished second in the volleyball tournament held in Mitchell in which 19 teams took part. The boys finished fourth and John Lalonde was the outstanding player. The boys will be going to another tournament in Goderich on Saturday, December 15. Line soccer winner was Edmonton. Sarah Brophy scored the winning goal in. sudden -death over- time. The health nurse came to St. Joseph's last — Friday to check the students' hair. No head lice— was found in the school. Mr. Kopas from P.E. Madill school in Wingham came to St. Joseph's to talk to the senior students who will be going to that school. Mr. Dick, from Goderich District Collegiate Institute, also came to talk to future students of that school. The euchre and com- munity checkers tour- naments are well un- derway. Survivors of the first round of house league checkers are Brother Carl, Mrs. Rose Frayne and Mr. Dave Zyluk. All students of St. Joseph's are busy practising for the Christmas concert to be held on December 18. The Official Si.
