In Signal -Star's never-
ending search for unusual
Christmas gifts, the
flowering bulbs came to
mind.
They can be purchased
in flowers shops, nur-
series and sometimes in,
five and ten cent stores.
You can give them ready
planted or with the pot
and the instructions for,
planting.
They will bloom within
a couple of months of
planting in most iri-
stances.

them, you will want to
place four to six -bulbs
about two inches apart in
a shallow bowl containing
colorful pebbles .and
water.
Twist the bulbs gently
and firmly into the
pebbles so they stand
straight, and are about 1/2
inch under the top sur-
face of the pebbles. The
bowl doesn't have to be
deep. „Four or five inches
will do.

of the bulb.

Mix the food coloring
with water and "dye" the
macaroni. Let -. the
macaroni dry overnight.
In the morning, string
the macaroni on the yarn.
Tie off in longlengths for
necklaces, in short
lengths for bracelets.
Let your imagination
run wild; You can make
your jewellery all red and

yellow for bigger girls.

schemes for dresses, too.

longer to bloom, maybe

The wait is worth it

of her pregnancy.
What a joy it was when he came to her to tell
her that he now knew her secret, revealed to
him in a dream by an angel:
"Joseph, son of David,. do not be afraid to
take Mary home as your wife, because she has
conceived what is in her by the -Holy S iffi-t. She _.
will give birth to a son and you must name him
Jesus because He is the one who will save his
people from their sins."
What happiness to be with this good husband
of hers and to share with him the joyful ex-
petation of the coming birth of Jesus. But this
too soon gave way to worry.
She shuddered. when she remembered first
hearing of the imperial edict that would send
Joseph so far to register at, his native
Bethlehem.
• It was a hardship ,for anyone to travel that
far. But for a wozn.aa.-.a-l.rnost-read-y.-to give__
birth; it would be torture.
yBut, far better to be with Joseph when that
ljrise came: Her fears were not unfounded. A
long, tiring journey of many days, but \with
always the prospect of a place to rest when they
arrived.
But then came the worst blow of all. As she
felt the first pains of childbirth within her, she
heard again and again the words: "Sorry, no
room" until Joseph became almost frantic.
r low she suffered; but most of all she suffered
for Joseph to see him so upset. She had tried to
hideher pain, to make light of it. But he knew!
His desperation must have finally gotten
through because finally they heard a voice
crying that they could stay in the stable. At
least it would be warni in there, and they would
be alone.
How well she remembered, even in spite of
the pain, the efforts Joseph made to make her
comfortable. But she knew it would be all right.
Perhaps, in God's own way, it had been per-
fect: that His Son should see the light of day in
such a lowly place, far away from the pa';sing
comforts of the world, and from all its deceits.
"And she gave birth to a son, her first-born.
She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid
him in a manger because there was no room for
them at the inn."
How •mysterious, how totally in-
comprehensible the ways of God! For He had
lig ago revealed through the prophets 'that
this would happen: that the Messiah would be a
son of David, that he would be born in
Bethlehem.
Little did Caesar dream that his selfish
command would form an integral part in the
unfolding of God's plan for man's salvation.
