If, for some reason, you did not receive this in- ' formation, please let us -know. Further details about any of the short courses or workshops may be obtained by completing, detaching and sending the "interest card" ! portion of the folder to the Agricultural Office, Clinton. However, if you find it more convenient, simply `call our office at 482-3428. For many ex- changes outside. the Clinton calling area, ask your operator for Zenith 7-2800. Some phone ex- changes extending into adjoining counties do not have a Zenith listing for our office. Check your directory under Government of • Ontario. We are -the first Ministry listed. Because of the great interest in some short courses, it may be necessary to limit enrolment on a "first- come -first served" basis - so please act early. Bev Brown, RR1 Bluevale, recently authored an excellent article for the December issue of The R-u-a-1-V-e4ee; entitled, "Do you Really Have All the Answers?" In this she comments about the value of the winter agricultural short couvses: and why, some pe.pple ,.do or. donot participate. Bev sums it up by suggesting an early New Year's Resolution that you (and your wife) at- tend at least one O.M.A.F. short course in 1980. Injury still high BY LEN MacGREGOR EXTENSION ASSISTANT The relatively high number of injuries on the farm is serious in Ontario and may be more serious than statistics indicate. Farming is ranked third behind mining and forestry as one of the nation's most hazardous occupations. Last year in Ontario, the Farm Safety Association recorded 2,314 lost -time injuries in agriculture. There were many more injuries that required medical at- tention only and no time away from work. The Association's in- jury statistics are derived from injury reports from farm em- ployers. At present, there are approximately 22,000 farm employers repor- ting to the Workmen's Compensation Board, roughly a third of the actual number of farmers in Ontario. So it is reasonable to assume that a large number of farm injuries are not included in the Association's statistics. The Association also recorded 46 farm fatalities in 1978; of this number, 17 or 37 percent occurred to children uncjer the age of 15.
