We welcome to the village Mr. and Mrs. Irvine Men- gers and family. They are residing in the former Jack Phillips house. Frank Thompson of Kin- cardine, formerly of the village, was admitted to Uni- versity Hospital, London on Saturday. Hope the stay is not too long Frank. The executive of the Birth- day ,celebrations for 1980 report there are only a few tickets left for the draw on the 20 inch colour portable T.V. to be drawn on Christ- mas eve at the West Wawa - nosh offices. Drawing the ticket will be Suzanne Alton, daughter of Ken and Ruth Alton, a student at Brookside School who was the winner of the crest contest conducted recently to determine a crest to be used on t -shirts, mugs, etc. On Saturday,. Santa paid an early visit to the village when he visited the many children who gathered at the Agriculture. Hall for a Christ- mas party. Mrs. Mary Bere ran the projector and showed the film "Santa Came", courtesy of the Goderich library. Following the film, Santa made his appearance and handed out treats to all the children present. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Deeves celebrated their wed- ding;.' anniversary recently, with the occasion of a dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Smith. Ken Eggleston, 10 -year- old son of Mr. and Mrs. erry-EgfglestonT(Fay Pear - son) underwent_surgery at. Sick Children's Hospital, Toronto the first part Of December..Following his re- lease, problems developed and he had to return to hospital, where he was re- leased again on December 17.. His grandmother, Mrs. Nels -Pearson, stayed with her daughter, Sharon, Mrs. Leonard Heggs and husband at St. Catharines for a few days, so as to have a shorter drive to Toronto. DUNGANNON U.C.W. Dungannon. U.C.W. held their December meeting on Wednesday evening in the church basement in the form of a pot luck dinner with, the Willing Workers as guests. There were 27 in attendance to enjoy the delicious meal. Mr. Cowan led a sing song accompanied by Mts. Jean Elliott at the piano. A film, "The Owl Called My Name", was shown. Diane Park thanked the —Tadies of the U.C.W. for inviting the Willing Workers. Gloria Pearson thanked Amy Wiggins for her work as president during the past year. Mrs. Wiggins replied graciously, commenting on — -the willing co-operation she had received from the mem- bers. A thank you letter was read froni the Oxford Centre which received the U.C.W. quilt. CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP CHURCH About 50 people attended a mystery supper on Satur- day at the Christian Fellow- ship Church. This event was sponsored by the Youth Group of the church. An interesting time was had by all, as they ordered their meal from the menu on which the items were dis- guised by strange names and descriptions. Following the supper a time of Christmas carol sing- ing was enjoyed. The Christmas Sunday School program was Sunday evening in the church. The junior members of the Sun- day School contributed in songs, recitations, and a rhythm band. The young people put on a Christmas play, and then led the con- gregation in a candlelighting ceremony. Pastor Lawrence was chairman for the program, and Douglas Zehr, from Lon- don, gave a brief message explaining the meaning of the candlelighting part of the service. There was a good turnout in spite of the cold, stormy weather. DUNGANNON UNITED CHURCH The Sunday morning ser- vice in the United Church followed the Whitev Gift pro - ,gram with the Sunday School participating. Mr. Wayne, Snyder, superintendent, read the Leader's parts with the various classes doing readings and songs with great effectiveness. Wien Elliott accompanied the children on the piano. The choir sang, "Go Tell It On The Mountain", led by ' organist, Mrs. Jean Elliott. Mr. Cowan gave a short talk on "It's the Little Things that Count". On the previous two Sundays purple candles were lit for Repentance. Jim Wright lit the ink candle for Joy and the congregation sang- "Joy to the -Worttr*:— — The children placed their White Gift envelopes in a chest for the purpose and all loose change on the offering plates will go to White Gift also. A certain amount of this goes to the local Family Services and the rest tCo World Missions. BROOKSIDE BROADCAST By Lisa Brown and Annette Curran On Monday, December 1Gth, Mr. Dick from the Guidance Department at Goderich High School, came to talk to the •Grade 8 students who will be going to Goderich High School about their optional courses. • On Thursday, December 13, Rev. Sonderup of Wing - ham, spoke to Room 11 and 12 on South Africa. Rev. Sonderup was born in South Africa and he has lived in Canada only two years. The film, "The Owl Called His Name", was viewed by sen- ior students on Thursday also. The students taking part in the Christmas Concert have been practising all week. The' concert was held on Tuesday, December 18. The Senior Volleyball Tournament will be, held at Goderich High School on Saturday, December 15. Those playing are going in by bus. • The girls' hockey game on Friday at Lucknow arena resulted in a tie. ••F ,:,„:,,,i••••••. • As we gather together to share the blessings and joy of the holiday with those we love, we greet old friends and say thanks.
