Foresters get rough game
Both the Foresters and
A.M. and G Hospital No. 1
were able to hold onto
their undefeated record
as the Industrial League
completed its first month
off competition. The
Forester foursome faced
a fierce challenge from
the Champion Sales
Vikesspijt with London
BY TD
The GDCI junior
Vikings split a pair of
exhibition- basketball
games in London last
Thursday, defeating
London Central 55 - 32 and
losing 76 - 70 to Laurier.
The Vikings coped well
with a variety of of-
fensive and defensive
patterns used. by Central
and had a 34 - 17 halftime
lead. Dennis Aubin led,.
the Vikings with 18
points. Kevin Adams
threw in nine while Andy
Masse and Rob Plunkett
had eight points each.
Mike Wedlock and Colin
Alexander had four
points apiece and Ben
Melick and Dave
McDonald had two points
each.
Despite the loss to
Laurier, Viking coach
Lynn Meyersrated the
game as the Viking's best
of .the season. The loss
was the first of the season
for the GDCI crew, but

proved a valuable
learning experience for
them. The Vikings were
down by two, 39 - 37, at
half-time and were within
one point of the winners
late in the fourth quarter.
Dennis Aubin again led
his team with 20 points.
Kevin Adams had 10.
Andy Masse contributed
nine points to the Viking
cause while Rob Plunkett
and Ben Melick had eight
each. Mike Wedlock and
Colin Alexander tallied
six points each and Dave
McDonald added two.

Most teams are satisfied
with an eight end game
hut Jack Keilough and\
associates prefer nine or
even ten ends a week. For
the third time in four
weeks the union foursome
became entangled in an
extra end encounter.
Their opponent this time
was the Hospital No. 1
team defending their
perfect record. In the
extra end, the coolness of
veteran curlers Ron
Klages and Tom Jasper
proved to be the deciding
factor as the Hospital unit
squeaked -by last year's
champ, 7 - 6.
Second place is shared
by four teams that have
lost only one match. The
Maitland Golfers
recorded an unusual shut-
out victory over a totally
luckless Victoria
Sweepers squad.
Little maintains
slim lead in chess
club standings
With the season
nearing the half -way
mark battles for position
are starting to develop.
Dennis Little won his only
game of the evening to
maintain first place with
an impressive record of
11-1 while Louis
Stadelmann picked up
• two victories to continue
leading the club in total
victories with 13.
Kirk 'Lyndon holds
down third—place—and
strengthened - that hold
with a win last week.
Glen Naylor also won his
only game of the evening
to hold on to the last top
level spot.
The closest battles are
being fought in Level 2,
where the top man is just
one game over .500 and
the bottom man one game
under .500.
Bob Dick brought his
mark up to .500 with a win
to take over third place in
Level 2.
In Level 3 a battle
exists between Owen
Moriarty and Darrell
Clutton for first place.
Bothplayers have' a .375 -
win -loss mark but Owen
has the lead in the victory
column. .

At the opposite end of
the scale was the extra -
end triumph of the
Assessment-, Office over
the Victoria Hardrocks.
This was the most ex-
citing game of the
evening as the final result
remained in doubt until
the last rocks of the
game. The Assessment
Office was inspired by the
spirit of Sue Ritchie and
the calm efficiency of
Dennis Lebrun while the
losing teacher unit got
similar performances
from Elaine Bertram and
Ron Tichie.
The game between the
GDCI No. 1 team and the
A.M.G. Hospital No. 2
team was a very close
affair until the fifth end.
In that end, the teachers
scored four big points
behind an almost perfect
team effort that produced
seven excellent shots and
went on to record a
misleading 13 - 4 final
score.
It is becoming clear
that the GDCI Teacher
No. 2 team is going to
challenge their
colleagues of the number
one team for top billing.
They recorded their third
victory with an im-
pressive win over the
very talented Huron
County Health Unit.
A shaky start for
Victoria and Grey
quickly put them down by
six after only two ends
and the ever -improving
Oom Club refused to fold
in the later ends as they
claimed their second win
in a row 10 - 3.
