Sailors lose two straight games
The Goderich Sailors
dropped two straight
games in Intermediate C
league action' on the
weekend.
On Friday the Sailors
dropped a 9-6 decision to
Wellesley in Goderich
and Sunday they were
edged 6-5 by the Lucknow
Lancers.
The losses leave the
Sailors with a record of
four wins, five losses and
three' ties for 11 points in
12 games.
Ira the game Friday
Wellesley held a 3-1 lead
after the first period,
increased it to 6-1 after 40
minutes and withstood
five Sailor goals in the
final period with three of
their own to win 9-6.
At one point in the final
period Goderich trailed 8-
2 but fought back with
four straight goals to
make the score more
respectable.
Bob Chapman and Ed
Schill provided all the
offence Wellesley needed

Dan Duncan led the
Sailors' offence scoring
the first two Goderich
goals and assisting on
another by line -mate
Paul Kelly. -
Ken Daer, Murray
Henderson and Dan
Colquhoun scored the
other Sailor goals. Kelly,
Paul Rau and Wayne
Doak chipped in with two
assists apiece.
On Sunday the Sailors
again waited until the
third period to get un-
tracked with a three -goal
rally but still fell on the
short side of a 6-5 scored.
Lucknow scored two
goals in both the first and
second periods and held a
4-2 lead after 40 minutes.
Goderich outscored the
Lancers 3-2 in the final
period but it wasn't
enough.
Skater
wins gold
A young member of the
Goderich Figure Skating
. Club recently captured a
gold medal at the Delhi
Invitational Skating
Competition.
Lisa Fisher, 9, was
awarded a gold medal for
her first placefinish in
the pre -juvenile ladies
category at the Delhi
competition.
Lisa is the daughter of
Jan • Fisher of Goderich
and is coached by
Midget boys split
Gallow each had two
points for the Vikings.
Laurier was a tougher
opponent for the Vikings,
using their superior size
to control the rebounds at
both ends of the court.
Laurier led 23 - 10 at half-
time.
Don McCallum was the
only Viking in double
figures with 10 points.
Paul_ McCartney and
Paul Day each hit for six
points. Mike Evans added
four. David Gallow, Mike
Madden, Dave More and
Kevin Smith had two
points each. Larry Baer
had one.

The GDCI midget boys
basketball team played
two exhibition games in
London last Thursday,
winning 31 - 20 over
London Central, ` but
losing 43 -35 to Laurier.
Against Central, the
Vikings played their best
defensive game of the
year and experimented
with a set offence which
had good success. Paul .
Day and Don McCallum
had nine points each for•
the winners. Paul
McCartney had four.

scoring in the game on a
goal by Paul Kelly but
Lucknow responded with
goals by Dennis Burrows
and Carl Stanley for a 2-1
first period lead.
Burrows and
each scored
second period
Lucknow led 4-2
Brian Blair put the
game on ice for Lucknow
with two goals in the final
period. Paul Kelly and
Steve Meriam, with his
second goal of the game,
and paul Rau score third
period goals for
Goderich.
This Friday the Sailors
will be playing in
Milverton and their next
home game is Friday,
December 28 against
Wingham.

B's lose
The Zurich bantams
piled up a four -goal lead
on the Goderich bantam
Bs and coasted to a 5-2
win in WOAA league play

Zurich scored two goals
in both the first and
second period and added
a single in the final period
to claim the win over
Goderich. The Goderich
Bs fell behind by four
goals late in the second
period before striking for
their first goal of the
game.
They added another
goal in the final period to
narrow the Zurich Lead to
two goals but the home
team clinched the win
scoring their fifth goal
late in the period.
Paul McCartney scored
the first Goderich goal in
the secoed period on an
unassisted effort. Doug
Smith added the other Bs
goal midway through the
final period also on an
unassisted play.
