Industrial Park entrances, advertising top priority for 80
The Goderich
Economic Development
Committee decided at its
meeting last Thursday, to
consider the following in
its 1980 expenditures:
Industrial Park en-
trances; increased adi
vertising; more services
(sewer and water along
Highway 21); and more
road development.
Committee • members
are to review these areas
of expenditure in detail
for the next meeting ,so
that a submission may be
finalized and forwarded
to town council for
consideration.
The discussion on
expenditures for 1980
followed a discussion on
the expenditures for 1979,
as presented by town
clerk, Larry McCabe.
Committee ,member
Elsa Haydon pointed out
to the rest of the com-
mittee that the minutes of
the Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority's
November 14 meeting
indicated that the
Authority has already
taken steps with regards
to the wood lot located in
Industrial Park.
A motion in the
Authority's minutes
states: "That the
Authority accept
ownership of the 54 acres
parcel of Wetland Forest
in the Goderich Industrial
Park for a nominal sum;
and that an agreement be
negotiated with Town of
Goderich for the
development and
maintenance of the
property."
Mrs. Haydon requested
that the minutes con-
taining this motion be
recorded by Mr. McCabe.
GEDC. Chairman, Dave
Gower, said he would
report later to the
committee on the
T'recommendation of the
Authority -with -regards -to _
the wood lot. He will also
report to town council on
the matter.
Correspondence was
received and filed from
Borg-Warner (Canada)
Ltd. stating that the plans
for the development of
the Griderich property in
Industrial Park are still
in the formative stage.
Ken Hunter, secretary
of the airport committee,
informed the GEDC that
the airport committee
would like one of the
GEDC members to at-
tend airport committee
meetings on a regular
basis as a non voting
member.
Mrs. Haydon said she
felt that if- -a represen-
tative of the GEDC is to
attend airport committee
meetings, that he should
be a member of the
airport committee and
thus a voting member.
A motion was passed
that the GEDC recom-
mend that Gus Chisholm
be appointed by council
as a full member of the
airport committee.
GEDC members were
informed that the
necessary by-law and
deeds had been prepared
and signed by the ap-
propriate municipal
representatives with
regard to the sale of land
to Envirosound Inc.
Chairman Gower in-
formed the committee
members that he had
reviewed various com-
merical aspects that. the
committee may become
involved with as follows:
children's wear outlet,
work clothing store,
market place for fruits,
vegetables and crafts,
and an industrial -
commercial mall con-
cept. He said he had
received a phone call
requesting 5,000 to 7,000
square feet of com-
mercial property easily
accessible to the public.
_GEDC members Harry
Worsell and Mrs. Haydon
stated that in 1980 a fair
ground area for fruits and
vegetables will be
promoted.
Member Jack Brady
indicated that perhaps
the committee.-- should
analyse what the current
needs of the present in-
-dus-try._._. ..are-- -i-n-- - the -
municipality and further,
perhaps a list of vacant
space and buildings for
commercial, industrial
and retail establishments
could be developed.
Member Gus Chisholm
said he felt the committee
should set a goal of 20,000
square feet of new and
exisiting industry for the
year 1980. The committee
could then work towards
promoting developments
at this level or greater.
The final survey of
Industrial Park area
south of the hydro
easement was distributed
to committee members
by the Commissioner of
Works, Ken Hunter.
Following a disc-ussion of
the survey, Mr. Hunter
was to verify that the
ownership of Part 28 is in
the name of Huromic
Industries not the P.U.C.
and that the P.U.C. have
an easement over part 28
only.
The , committee., then
passed a motion that the
survey as presented be
registered.
Mrs. Haydon expressed
her concern with regard
to the sub=comrrrittee -of
Planning Board in-
dicating that the northern
part of Industrial Park or
that part between the
hydro easement and the
proposed Suncoast ex-
tension is to be zoned as
part of the revision of the
zoning by-law of the Town
of Goderich. Her concern
was that this could take a
considerable length of
time.
A motion was then
passed to recommend to
the sub -committee of
Planning Board, com-
posed of representatives
of the GEDC, council and
