Take advantage of winter rec programs
The Goderich
Recreation and Com-
munity Centre Board is
sponsoring various
recreation programs to
begin the week of
January 14, 1980.
The list of activities
and the diversity can
provide a leisure activity
or hobby for many people
during the winter.
The programs are
available to any in-
terested adults and in
some cases children. If
you are interested in any
of the following
recreation programs you
are asked to contact the
recreation office at 524-
12125 before the start of
the program.
BASKETBALL
This is simply a
recreational program to
allow anyone over 18
years of age a chance to
play basketball in an
unstructured form. the
program consists of
eight -1l hour sessions at
St. Marys School and
costs a mere 50 cents per
night. These pick up
basketball games offer
good recreational fun as
-well as exercise.
WEAVING
Evelyn Hardy will
iontroduce participants
to the intricate and in-
teresting craft of weaving
in six three-hour sessions.
Students will have a
chance to work on looms,
and make wall hangings,
placemats and purses.
Supplies are included in
the $50 fee.
MAJORETTES
Sylvia Harmon,who
has been associated with
the Goderich Majorettes
for several years, will
again , conduct this,
program on Thursday
evenings at Robertson
School in Goderich. The
goals of the club are to
provide rythm and co-
ordination opportunities
for youth. The Majorettes
participated in the
goderich Santa .. Claus
parade and grace several
area parades throughout
the year-.,,
YOGA
The yoga program is
still not finalized and
further details will be
made available later.
TENDING YOUR HOME
BAR
This program should be
of interest for all those
who like entertaining.
Brian MacKenzie will
conduct the six-week
session at the Goderich
Arena on Tuesday or
Wednesday evenings.
Students will learn how to
set up their home bar and
mix a multitude of
drinks.
HOLIDAY HAP-
PENINGS
During the March
Break there will be a
Holiday Happenings
program for children at
Victoria School.
All of the above
programs will be ad-
vertised in the Signal -
Star in January with
complete details.
The recreation
de artment wants to
assist you so let them
know what kind of leisure
activity you would like to
see in Goderich this
winter.
BROOMBALL
Again, if you have
spare time in the morning
then a pickup broomball
game could be just what
you need. Every Friday
from 10-12 noon players
get into broomball for
only $2.
SHINNY
If you're on shift work
and would like to play a
little hockey during the
day here's your chance.
Each Tuesday and
Thursday morning from
10-12 noon players gather
at the arena for a pickup
game and the cost is only
$2. It's low level com-
petition hockey that
prpvides some good
exercise.
SPECIAL EVENTS
December 15,Satur-
day.-Snowshoeing for all
ages will be held at
Victoria Public School
from 1-4 p.m. at a cost of
25 cents. Snow shoes will
be provided.
Saturday January 5 -
There will be a sleigh ride
for, children leaving from -
Victoria School at 1 p.m.
on a first cofme first
serve basis. John Hin-
dmarsh will be con-
ducting the ride and
anyone interested should
phone the recreation
office.
CAKE DECORATING
The cake decorating is a
follow up to the begin- Joard also
ner's course and is taught
by J Woodall It
consist of approximately

7-11/2 hour sessions at
Victoria. Public School.off

The cost is $30. The
course will teach difficult
borders, specialized
techniques in figure
piping and colour flow.
CRAFTS FOR
JANUARY
This is an eight week
program that . will
demonstrate the making
of crafts with different
dried flower
arrangements. The -
sessions will touch on
sunflower seed pictures,
gifts and home
decorations and crafts
from natural weeds and
products. The instructor
is Donna Moore and the
-cost will be $J5. the
program is expected to
run ' on Tue5'day or
Wednesday evenings.
Material is not supplied
but the cost for material
will be under $3 each
week.
DISCO DANCING
Fran Sears will teach
eight -11/2 hour 'sessions
each Thursday evening at
the Goderich Arena. The
cost of the lessons is $15.
The program will teach
the latest disco dance
stepsd and offer a fun
alternative to exercise.
GUITAR LESSONS
This program will offer
guitar lessons to both
adults and children in two
separate programs. It
will involve a ,study of
technique, picking,
strumming, chord
development and a
variety of songs and
exercises. the course is
designed for beginners
and guitars will be
supplied if needed. the
course will consist of
eight one-hour sessions
and the cost is $35.

The Huron County
Board of Education offers
an interesting variety of
night school programs at
Goderich and District
Collegiate Institute which
will begin the week of
January 7, 1980:
The following is a list of
programs offered.
BADMINTON -This
course ' is more
recreational in nature but
instructor Bob Dick can
also provide instruction
to beginners. The course
will be offered fro two
hours each . Monday
evening for 10 weeks.
BRIDGE (IN-
TERMEDIATE) -Eleanor
Erskine is the instructor
and the course will be
held on Monday evenings
for 10 weeks.
ENGLISH FOR NEW
CANADIANS -This is a
new program mainly
aimed at new refugees in
the Goderich area. The
course is being offered as
a free service by the
board. Robin Crocker and
Dave Haslett are the
instructors.
GOLF -Lynn Meyers
conducts this 10 week
instructional program in
the gym at GDCI on
Monday evenings. The,
course offers instruction
for beginners and ac-
comodates golfers of all
ability who simply want
to get a head start on the
season.
HEATING WITH
WOODWIND POWER
AND SOLAR ENERGY -
Tony McQuail conducts
this eight week practical
energy alternative course
on Monday evenings.
PHOTOGRAPHY -Mac
Campbell will offer in-
struction on a variety of
photographic subjects in
this' five-week session on
Tuesday evenings.

VANCED-This

VANCED-This is a 10
week course of interest to
sewers which will be held
on Tuesday evenings. Jan
Bernard is the instructor.
STRETCH SEWING -
This 10 week course will
be offered by . Mary
Devok on Thursday
evenings.
MARCH -A St. Johns
Ambulance course will -be
offered.
APRIL -A five-week
Gardening program will
be offered.
MAY -Tennis en-
thusiasts can sharpen up
their game with this five-
week course.
All programs begin at
7.30 p.m. and run for
approximately two hours
per session. The cost of a
10 -week course is $15 and
$10 for a course of less
than 10 weeks.
