Vanastra Rec Centre offers varied programs
The Vanastra
Recreation Centre offers
a wide variety of
recreational and in-
struction programs
during the winter mon-
ths.
The centre features an
indoor pool, health spa,
sauna and auditorium.
The indoor pool and
health spa is popular with
fitness enthusiasts and
there is a great number of.
programs offered. Pool
only memberships can be
bought for $44 yearly for
an adult or $100 per
family. Full membership
fees for all the facilities is
$110 for a single and $160
- for a family. General 1
admission to the pool is $1
or $2.50 per family.
The centre offers many
swim programs as well
from non -swimmers to
adv,anced. They include a.
ladies aquafit instruction
program ; a co-ed adult
swim for all levels on
Wednesday evenings;
youth swims and a Red
Cross program.
There is also a special
program for pre-school
tots and parents that
stresses orientation and
fun in the water and this
cin be combined with a
pre-school gym class.
There is also an evening
parent -and -tot program.
The health spa offers
numerous fitness
programs for Ladies on
-Monday and Wednesday
afternoons and Thursday
evening there is a gym,
swim and sauna
program. A similar
program is offered for
men on Wednesday
,evenings at 8.30 p.m.
There is also a yoga
prgram offered Thursday
evenings at 8.30 p.m. that
includes sauna and swim
and youth gymnastics.
Seniors can also learn
to swim in a new program
being initiated this year.
It begins on January 7.
Bingos are also held on
Tuesdau evenings.
The centre is also of-
fering disco dance
lessons each Monday
evening tor* six weeks.
• The classes begin at 8.30
and run for two hours.
You don't need a
membership to use the
Ski week
Jan. 19-27
The theme for
Canada's National Ski
Week, Jan. 19-27, is ski
for the health of it. -
Jackrabbit Sinith-
Johannsen, the grand old
man of cross-country
skiing (he's enjoyed it for
102 of his 104 years), has
been named honorary
chairman of the big week.
His advice: "Get on to
the best prescription
'around for winter fitness
—a pair of skis."
Among suggestions
offered by Judith Hunter,
executive director of the
Canadian Ski Council
are:
Take a friend skiing;
spread the word among
non -skiers.
Take a skiing lesson
yourself. Learn about the
services offered by the
resort you're visiting.
But primarily ski for
the fun and the health of
it.

check on structured
program times. The use
of each facility on a
casual basis is $1.
They are also offering a
February special that
includes use of the fitness
room, sauna and pool
until February 28 for only
$1 a day.
These facilities may
also be rented by groups
on an hourly basis.
