Little Theatre plans exciting season. in. 1980 The Goderich Little Theatre group has gained a respectable reputation for their fine theatrical offerings in Goderich over the years and this season is one of their best ever. They recently staged a most successful and undesputably fine ren- dition of Fiddler on the Roof. The reviews were excellent and the season promises more fine of- ferings. The next Little Theatre production will be Noel Coward's Private Lives with June .Hill as director. Casting for the play will begin in the New Year and it will be presented in late February. The third play of the season is Miracle Worker and Philip MacMillan will direct. That play will be presented in late April or early May. The Little Theatre can always use actors of every description and many behind the scenes hands are needed for scenery and costumes. Benmiller Inn offers new cross-country trails The Benmiller Inn recently began catering to cross-country ski enthusiasts with the completion of two ski trails. The Inn now offers guests two different trails; one that is five miles complete 'and a second that is up to five miles long but has four turn around points along the route. Both trails reach Cherrydale Farm at their halfway point where skiers can stop for soup and sandwiches. All trails lead from and return to the main building and are limited to guests of the Inn or Cherrydale Farm. Guests can take ad- vantage of a weekedn ski package that includes any June accomodation tor two nights and three days, meals . and skiiing for $170. This is the second season the ski trails have been in operation and all trails are groomed regularly. The weekend package has been attracting many cross-country ski lovers. GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1979—PAGE 3B R o tart' Gib p l Rotary ans new on Symp y h - series The Goderich Rotary Club announced the dates for the 1979-80 Rotary Symphony series featuring the London Symphony Orchestra. The club will offer three concerts in the series beginning with the popular Handel's Messiah to be presented at North Street United Church on Thursday, December 20 at 8.15 p.m. Messiah was presented in Goderich in 1977 as part of the winter concert series and is returning by popular demand. The remaining two concerts will be held at Goderich and District Collegiate Institute in February and May. The Sinfonia concert will"be staged Friday, February 15 at 8.15 p.m. and the Orchestra Night, in- volving the complete London Symphony Orchestra, will be held Friday, May 2 at 8.15 p.m. With support of the Sully Foundation the subscription prices will remain at $20 per family and $9 per adult for the series. The Goderich club will be looking for in- creased sales due to rising costs and tickets may be obtained from any Rotary Club mem- ber. The first concert features the popular Messiah which handel composed in the space of three weeks in 1741. It took him seven, nine and six days respectively for each of the three large sections of the work and another two days to fill out the instrumentation. The first presentation took place in Dublin in April 1742 as a benefit concert. Handel later initiated a series of benefit concerts with his work for the Founding Hospital. The concert was an annual event and the blind Handel made his last public ap- pearance in 1759. Messiah has retained its popularity for over two centuries but is rarely heard as Handel himself performed it. But it .has still maintained a rare popularity. Oldtimers will host international 12 -team tournament During the winter months the Goderich and District Memorial Community Centre is, alive with hockey in volving boys and men of all ages. Goderich having a hockey system as evidenecd by the brand of hockey and the number of teams involved in OMHA playoffs over the past couple years. . The OMHA playoffs usually begin around the end of February and also attract large crowds. The minor system is sending two Goderich hockey • teams to St. boasts of fine minor Lambert, Quebec in January to compete against teams coached by Doogie Parsons. During the Christmas holdiays the arena will be open for public skating on December 24, 27 and 28. The times of the public skating will he published later. The Goderich Old- timers hockey club;`gold and silver medal winners in international com- petition, will he hosting their own tournament in Goderich this season. The 12 -team international competition will be held on February 22,23 and 24 with tc.;ms from all over the arca. It promises to be an exciting narnent. The •goderich Lions Club will again be hosting their annual young Canada Peewee Hockey Torunanient from march 14 through to march 22 at the Goderichf Arena. •This is one of the best run minor tour'nanients in 'the province -and provides plenty of excitement for area hockey fans. The Central Huron Hockey League of Goderich will again host an industrial hockey torunament in February or March.
