Skating club gearsup for '80
SEASON
ACTIVITIES OF
THEGODERICH
FIGURE SKATING
CLUB
Our season commenced
with the annual Fall
Dance having the them
"Hard Times", which
was held in September
and proved to be a suc-
cessful fund raising
event.
The regular skating
season began in early
October with 194 Home
Club and 12 Associate
members , registered.
Under the direction of
Club Professionals Fran
Brady, Rick Pettit, and
Blaine Moore our
program includes the
following. categories:-
N.S.T. (National Skating
Test), C.F.S.A.
(Canadian Figure
Skating Association), and
Power Skating. All
skaters in the above-
mentioned levels are
progressing quite
rapidly.
To the present time we
have had skaters at-
tending seminars and
competitions which in-
cluded a Dance Seminar
held in Clinton,
November 8th; Sectional
Competition in Preston,
November 17th, where
two of our skaters were
successful in bringing
home a silver medal in
Pre -Novice Dance
Competition ° Hamilton -
Stoney Creek Invitational
Competition' on
December 1, in which
another of our promising
young skaters obtained a
bronze medal in Pre -
Juvenile Free Skate. "
January 24th to 27th,
1980; W.O.S.W.I.C.
Sarnia Invitational held
March 14th to 16th. Good
Luck is hereby extended
to all those. skaters
competing in these
events.
The Goderich Figure
Skating Club ateld a "Las
Vegas Fun Night"
November 24th, the
proceeds of which will
assist our competitive
skaters at the various
competitions they will
attend on behalf of our
Club throughout Ontario.
Included in our schedule
"'of fund raising events is a
Skate-a-thon tentatively
scheduled for mid-
December, as well as a n
annual Spring Dance to
be held Saturday, April
19th, 1980.
We will be hosting a
Test Day on December
15th, as well as two Club
Competitions to be held
Wednesday, January
23rd, 1980 and Saturday,
February 2nd;+}1980. We
hope to have a good
representation of the
Goderich residents at
these events to -support
our skaters. Those
skaters ranking in the top
three Tn the various
In the near future the
club will be well
represented by various
skaters who will be at-
tending the following
competitions:- Delhi
Invitational December
15th; Gteat Lakes
London Competition
events' at the C.F.S.A.
level in our Club Com-
petition will advance to
the annual Inter -Club
Competition hosted this
year by the Stratford
Figure Skating Club and
is scheduled for March 2,
1980.
Another date to mark
on your calendar, and one
which our skaters look
forward to with great
anticipation, is our an-
nual Ice Nicks. This year
the theme for our car-
nival will be "Circus "80"
and will involve all
members of the Goderich
Figure Skating Club. This
event will occur March
8th, 1980 and• will be
