COUPLES CLUB Several couples met on Saturday, December 8 at Knox United Church for the first meeting of the Couples Club. An evening of Court Whist was enjoyed with prizes presented to Shelley Worsell and Barry Millian for high scores and Irene Millian aid Marinus Bakker for low scores. A sing -song of favorite • Christmas songs was led by Mr. Rick Hawley. A short discussion was held to plan future meetings. A committee of three couples was set up to arrange a mid-January meeting. Everyone was urged to invite• at least one other couple to the next meeting. Lunch was served by the committee in charge. SOCIAL NEWS Mrs. Marjory Hawley of Cambridge is visiting this week with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hawley, Beth and Amy. Mobile must be sold. TRUSTEES MEETING The Auburn dogs which are running loose won't have a very Merry Christmas if their owners do not tie them up and keep them under control. This came under discussion at the December meeting of the Auburn Village Trustees when they met- last Saturday evening in the town hall. Chairman Warner Andrews was in charge. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read by the clerk, Mrs. Arva Machan. It was stated that repairs are needed at the town hall ,so the trustees decided to get estimates for this work. One new street light will have to be replaced and it is hoped that a new one will be installed at the corner of Goderich and Turnberry streets. A discussion took place regarding cars or trucks parked on the street. These vehicles will have tobe parked elsewhere so snow ploughing can take place. -Bud Charnmey of Chamney Sanitation Service was present and presented his contract for two years. This contract was accepted on motion of trustee James Glousher and trustee Kenneth Scott. A lengthy discussion took place regarding -dog control egarding•dogcontrol as several complaints had been given to the chairman. A letter was read from Leslie E. WALKERBURN CLUB The November meeting of the Walkerburn Club was held recently at the home of Mrs. Joe Hunking. Mrs. Thomas Cunningham opened the meeting with a poem. 0 Canada was sung, followed by prayer by Mrs. Ted Hunking. The roll call was an- swered by a donation to the support of the club's Korean foster child. The 12 members present also stated what they each wanted for Christmas. The draw • prize, donated by Mrs. Ronald Gross, was won by Mrs. Keith Lapp. It was decided not to hold a Christmas meeting. Plans were made for the January meeting to be held January 27 at 2 p.m. The program is to be in the charge of Mrs. Keith Lapp and Mrs, Ronald Gross. The lunch will be in the charge of Mrs. Garth McClinchey and Mrs. Joe Verwey. The roll call will be answered by members' favorite recipes. Each member is asked to make their favorite recipe and at- tach the written recipe for the sale. The program for the afternoon was in the charge of Mrs. Elliott Lapp and Mrs. Ted Hunking and the theme was, "The Year of the Child" and how Christ- ,.mas is celebrated in other countries of the world. Lunch was served by Mrs. Keith Lapp, Mrs. Ronald Gross and the hostess, Mrs. Joe Hunking. U.C.W. The Sunshine Unit of the Knox United Church Women held a Christmas party in the Sunday school room of the church last Wednesday at noon, when they entertained their families and invited guests. Mrs. Jack Armstrong, leader of the group, welcomed each one at the door. After singing Grace, everyone partook of the delicious hot food and delicious desserts on the attractive smorgasbord table. All sat around tables decorated with' Christmas symbols. Following the dinner, the committee in charge presented a devotional service entitled, "A Wreath of Christmas". This was introduced by Mrs. Oliver Anderson. It consisted of readings by Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Orval McPhee, Mrs. Kenneth McDougall and Mrs. Beth Lansing. Mrs. Donald Haines read the scripture passages and Christmas carols were sung by the audience. Mrs. Gordon Chamney was soloist' for the selections, "They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love" and "Star of the East", accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Ken- neth McDougall. Mrs. Emmerson Rodger was pianist for the carols and also played a piano solo, "0 Holy Night". Mrs. Jack Armstrong presided for the remainder of the program. Robert Turner favored with several selections on his mouth organ, ac- companied on the piano by Mi's. Donald Haines. Mrs. Armstro-ng conducted a Bible quiz on events pertaining to the celebration of Christmas. The last number, on the program was an in- teresting and amusing gift e(change. Miss Laura Phillips, on behalf of the invited ,guests, moved a vote of thanks to the members of the unit for a very en- joyab'le time spent together'. Mrs. Ed Davie also expressed her thanks. •
