ets ga- in split
The GDCI midget boys'
basketball team won two
of three exhibition games
and split a pair of league
games over the past
week.
Myles Murdock's crew
defeated Parkhill 32-31
here last Tuesday, and
defeated Owen Sound
Westhill 47-39 but lost 48-
30 to OSCVI._„in Owen
Sound Thursday. In
league action, the Vikings
defeated Central Huron
Redmen 52-45 in Clinton
Friday, but lost to the
Listowel Lords here
Monday, 55-45.
Scoring for the Vikings
against Parkhill were
Mike Madden with seven
points, , Don McCallum
with six, Paul Day and
Jeff Denomme with five
each, Larry Baer, Mike
Evans, Kevin Smith, and
Andrew Telford with two
each and Dave Gallow
with one point.
Mike Evans had 12
points and Don McCallum
10 against Westhill. Paul
Day and Jeff Denomme
each had eight, Mike
Madden had four, David
Gallow and Andy Telford
two each and Jim Walton
one.
Dan Pettigrew led
Westhill with 13 points.
The Vikings had a 28-15
lead over OSCVI at half
time, but were able to
score only two points in
the second half when bad
passing and poor shot
selection did them in. The
use of a zone defence by
OSCVI, which is not
permitted in Huron -Perth
Conference play, also
hampered the Vikings.
Andrew Telford and
Mike Evans had seven
points each for Goderich.
Paul Day had five, Jeff
Denomme and Don
McCallum had four
apiece and David Gallow
threw in three points.
The 'league win over
Clinton was the Vikings
best played game so far
this season. . Don
McCallum had 14 points,
Jeff Denomme 12 and
Paul Day 10. Mike Evans,
David Gallow and Greg
Marshall had four points
piece while Dave More
and Larry Baer had two
each.
Doug McLure and Mike
Boosey had 14 points each
for Clinton.
Listowel was full
measure for their win
over the Vikings here
Monday. Led by Pete
Zister with"16 points and
Steve Connors with 13,
the Lords moved the ball
inside and shot well.
Jeff Denomme, Paul
Day and Mike Evans had
eight points each for
Goderich. Don McCallum
added seven and . Pat
Madden, who led in
rebounding with 16, had
four points. Greg Mar-
shall,
arshall, Dave More, Jim
Walton and Larry Baer
each had two points.
Coach Murdock feels
his team must have a
more organized offence
and better positioned
defence if the Vikings are
to win over strong teams
such as the Lords.
Two teams undefeated in
Industrail League- curling
Only two teains remain
in the ranks of the un-
defeated as the Industrial
League moves into its
fourth week of curling.
Last - --week._ t.h-e.
Assessment Office fell
from the glorious group
of the unconquered into
tie .pit of anonymity
known as the "Pack",
joining five other teams
tied for second place. The
assessors were delegated
to this new position by the
heartless Forester
foursome. Bryan Allan
and Dennis Lebrun
fought hard to stay on top
but precision curling by
Ralph Foster and Cam
Bogie put an end to the
Assessment's Office's
dream of an unblemished
season with an 8 - 3 final
score.
The A.M. & G Hospital
No. 1 kept their record
perfect as they overcame
a spirited challenge -from
their cohorts of the A.M.
& G Hospital No. 2
defeating them 10 - 3.
Each end of this duel was
a hard fought one as both
A.M. & G teams struggle
to achieve the number 1
label. When the mist
cleared the foursome of
Peter Beguin, Dennis
Miskie, Ron Klages and
Tom Jasper could claim
to be No. 1 at least until
these two rivals meet
again.
Both GDCI teacher
teams posted convincing
wins on the scoreboard, A
near flawless per-
formance by the GDCI
No. 2 team resulted in a
shutout triumph over the
Champion Office unit.
Lynn Ed -ward and skip
Bill Garrow were out-
standing for the winners
while the Champion
Office team were also
present.
Exceli, lent work in the
late ends by Doug Bundy
and Donna Doidge proved
to be the deciding factor
in the GDCI No. 1 team's
-win-- o -ver- the Victoria
Sweepers. The final end
which saw eleven rocks in
play was typical of the
contest that ended in an
11 - 4 score. Doug Yeo and
Donalda MacDonald
were strong for the
unlucky Sweepers.
An all -female contest
between the Maitland
Golfers and the Cham-
pion Ladies produced an
explosive encounter that
was uncertain until the
final rock. Fine curling
by Elaine Bois and
Michelle Morenz allowed
the Champion women to
wian five of the game's
eight ends but the clutch
curling of Sue White and
Pat Munroe produced
three big ends for the
golfers and a final score
of 10 - 7 for the Maitland
females.
John Orr took over the
Huron Health Unit and
Phil Paquette came out of
retirement to combine for
a decisive victory over
the Victoria and Grey
crew. The game
remained close until the
sixth end with John Wink
and Cathy Hamilton
providing the spark for
the V and G foursome but
Orr and Paquette's key
shots in this end put the
match out of reach. The
game ended with the
score 7 - 3.
Local 1863, which
started the season with a
tough extra end loss,
moved into the pack tied
for second place by
winning an extra end
encounter with the
Champion ,Sales Office.
This match was the
highlight of the evening
as both teams curled behind win over the
expertly. Bill Hayward Victoria Hardrocks. The
enjoyed an excellent Hardrocks, behind the
evening for the sales first class curling of Barb
' Lade and Anne Bond, had
built up a 6 - 2 lead with
people making a number
of very difficult shots
while opposing skip Jack
Keilough and vice skip
Charlie Crawford were
just a touch better and
were able to claim a well-
deserved 7 - 6 victory.
The "Oom" Club
climbed out of the cellar
with a superb come -from
only two ends to go. The
final score of 10 - 6 for the
"Oom" Club tells the
story of the comeback.
Jim Collins and Wayne
DeBolt were the main.
factors in the Oom Club's
first taste of victory.
Little wins six
games in
chess club play
Dennis Little
domineered the evening
playing and winning six
games in one evening!
Dennis decided he
would play fairly quickly
in order to have enough
games played to qualify
for the regular standings.
This usually proves
disastrous.
However Dennis' quick
playing was infectuous
and his opponents also
quickened their pace.
Dennis played quickly
and yet flawlessly to take
over first place in the
standings with a .909
percentage. Louis
Stadelmann continues to
lead the club in total
victories by winning both
of his games to pick up
his eleventh win. Another
force to be reckoned with
for first place is Doug
Brindley who slipped into
the honorary division one
game shy of qualifying
for the regular standings.
However, if Doug picks
up two games next week
he will again qualify and
presently holds an un-
defeated record of 8 and
0!
Kirk Lyndon vaulted
into the upper echelon by
winning two games to
take over third place.
In Level 2, Barry Page
brought his winning
percentage up to 50
percent to take the lead in
the most improved
category with an increase
of 250 points.
