Sailors shade Milverton 6-5

withstood a three -goal
Milverton rally in the
final period to hang on for
a 6-5 win`in Intermediate
C league action in
,IGoderich Friday.
The Sailors led 4-2 after
two periods of play and
-despite giving up three
straight goals in the final
period came back with
two , goals late in the
period for the 6-5 win.
The victory was the
fourth of the season for
the. Sailors against three
losses and three ties.
They have 11 points in -10
games.
... Goderich fell - beh•ind•
early in the game as
Milverton struck for two
goals in just over 30
seconds by the time the
game was five minutes
old.
The Sailors rebounded
from the deficit with
' three straight goals to
hold a 3-2 lead after one
period of play. Dale
Duncan, Murray Hen-
derson and Dan Duncan

scored first period goals
for Goderich.
Steve Meriam provided
.the Sailors with a two -
goal cushion scoring the
only goal of the second

Milverton quickly
erased the Goderich
advantage in the third
period scoring three
goals in four minutes to
take a 5-4 lead with 10
minutes remaining in the

The Mustangs got off to
a quick lead with Dave
MacDonald and Rick
,Stahl scoring in the first
minute of play. Detroit
• got one goal back midway
through the period but
Goderich countered with
two more goals before the
end of the period for a 4-1
lead. MacDonald added
his second goal of the
period and Larry Boyce
had the other goderich
first period goal.
The Mustangs con-
tinued to produce of-
fensively adding their
fifth goal in the first
minute of the second
period as Duanne Elliot
banged in a pass from Joe
Trebish and Mike
Paquette.
Detroit scored one goal
in the second period to
trail 5-2 heading into the
final 20 minutes of play.
The visitors scored
early in the third period
and narrowed the margin
to 5-4 with less than three
minutes remaining in the
game. Stahl put the game
on -ice fore Goderich
scoring with just over a
minute left in the game.
Goderich needed the
goal however, as Detroit
came with another goal in
the final minute of the
game.
Stahl and MacDonald
had two goals each for
Goderich and each added
an assist apiece. boyce
chipped in with a goal and
three -ass -i sts .
Detroit was assessed 11
minor penalties, a five-
minute major and a 10 -
minute misconduct in the
game. Goderich was
tagged with 11 minor
penalties.
