The parents met at the Queen Elizabeth Wing of Victoria Public School and were introduced to the executive of ,the G.D.A.M.R. This executive includes Jim Bolan, chairman; Bevan Lindsay, past chairman; Eugene -Bender, treasurer; Joan Van Den Broeck, secretary; MacEwan Egener, legal advisor; and Gail Doak. Sally Finn, Linda Freeman, Don Budnark, George Hiles andjaonnie Graham, directors:, The parents then heard from Maxine Pollock, camp convener. She gave a brief outline of the procedure involved to go to Camp Belwood. George Hiles, co- ordinator of the Adult Rehabilitation Centre, outlined the staffing and program at A.R.C. The 34 Directors from across the province made decisions that will affect the 28,000 members in Ontario and indeed many around the world. With an awareness of the needs of others, they voted $2,000 for the project in Bangladesh for secr,gtarial training, including instruction in nutrition education, enabling the women to earn a living. The $1,500 that was sent to India last year was used for the IYC program in child care, nutrition and a mini -eye camp. Miss M. McGhee, the Director of the Home Economics Branch, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, praised the 9,000 volunteers who gave of their time and talents to teach the 4-H and adult programs. She an- nounced the retirement of Mrs. Helen Armstrong who has been the office secretary for 17 .years. Miss Mary Campbell of the Home Economics Branch will assume her position. "There is no better investment of time, money and effort than investing in the young people," said the Honorable Lorne Hen- derson, the Minister of Agriculture and Food, when he addressed the membership and friends at the dinner. He praised the Women's Institute for its many accomplishments through the 83 years, particularly in the rural areas. Mrs. Diamond ex- pressed appreciation for the many services that are made available to the Women's Institute by the Ministry and the close working relationship that is present between them. The Junior Women's Institute, capably represented by aAARith . McCurdy and Barbara Saari, were enthusiastic in their reports of the growth and activities of the branches throughout the province. She spoke on _ the Leisure Buddy program and mentioned that the second area recreational swim meet had been held on November 2 at Variastra. She, said that the Recreation Department's programs and activites are open to every member of the com- munity and that the mentally handicapped are especially welcome to take part in them. Sally Finn spoke to the parents about starting a parent relief program. Gwen Bedford, an Adult Protective Service Worker with the Stratford Family Counselling Service, also spoke to the parents. The parents then went to the Kinsmen Centre and were given a tour of the Adult Rehabilitation Centre there by Mrs. Howard Carroll. Following this tour, they went across the street to the Group Home where refreshments were se.rv'.d and more' tours given. Bonnie Graham, principal of the Queen Elizabeth Wing at Vic- toria Public School, said she felt that the evening gave the parents a good insight into the schooling and programs available to the mentally retarded.
