Council members were also in attendance as_ was architect Brian Garratt, who presented his continued plans for the township hall. He had met with a kitchen equipment sub committee during the month to cover the more intensified planning of that area. They were not able to submit an itemized report pending notification of some equipment companies. However, Mr. Garratt was able to go over the several plans of the hall ins finer detail, providing as well an itemized room finish - schedule. Some changes were made and much was discussed with great interest. He promised to have the plans prepared c prepared Jur publication in the paper - soon! Township reeve, Grant Stirling, presented a report of a telephone communication with the ministry of culture and recreation, made by township clerk, R.E. Thompson. Some time ago, Mr. Thompson, on behalf of the township, had phoned the Ministry to enquire as to the township's eligibility for acquiring the Wintario grant. He was cautioned to wait five weeks for a definite answer. Since it was now eight weeks past, and still no reply, Mr. Thompson felt obliged to make enquires again. Target date for the new rulings, expected to af- fect some 6,500 bow and arrow hunters in Ontario is September 1, 1980. "The new,. regulations are meant to act as a guide to first-time bow hunters who have never bought archery tackle before," said Natural Resources Minister James Auld. ' "Hunters aren't allowed to use .22 calibre firearms to hunt big game because. they are under -powered and might only wound, rather'=than kill the animal. For the same reason, we don't want bow hunters using underpowered and inappropriate equip- ment." Mr. Auld said the regulations coverink. deer, bear and moose hunting were established in response to recom- mendations from the province's bow hunters that minimum standards for archery gear be set. The new regulations are as follows: --crossbows must have a minimum draw length of 30 cm (one foot): --arrows and bolts must be equipped with a head that has at least two sharp, unserrated, barbless steel, straight - cutting edges. The head must not be less than 22 mm (jg•") at" the widest point. --arrows must be at least- 60 cm --(two feet] In length; --longbows, including recurve and compound bows, fl must have a minimum draw weight of 18 kg (40 pounds), when used for hunting moose and bear. The draw weight will be measured at•a draw length distance measured "to the release latch mechanism. ,.,..„..,,,,„.„,,,,„„e.,„...,.„.,„.,.„.,.„.,.,,,.,.„„,,,,,,,,,,.,,, 'i' - Inflation Fighter tO9 0. jj r hristmas ei 0') jo t 5. ,t 9 34 f b 40 to • t SII' StoreWidei f. 0 O.° • • ALL MERCHANDISE Free Gift Wrapping on Request No Refunds - Merchandise May be Exchanged Captaits Q CLOTHIER FOR MEN SHOPPERS SQUARE bat of Ooze.zic4 Inter charge ('HARGF.X Y MOMMOM that the township _was that the townshi was eligible, and, although we hadn't received any written confirmation of the grant, we should send down our plans, expected specific costs, a break- down of confirmed prices on the faith that a grant will be allowed.
