Sailors fail to climb above

The Sailors played on
the road this past
weekend and earned a
split in their two games
,losing 9-6 to Mount Forest
Friday andAhen dumping
the Elora Rocks 8-3 in
a. Elora. Sunday.
The split gives the
Sailors a record of three
wins, three losses and
three ties for nine points
in nine games.
The Sailors watched a
victory slip right through
their hands Friday as
Mount Forest scored five
third period goals, to
erase, a 6-4 Goderich lead
after two periods, to win
the game.9-6.
Mount Forest put
Goderich in a hole early
scoring two goals in the
first minute and a half of
play and adding a third
before the end of the
period. The Sailors got
untracked midway
through the period and
goals by Graham
Hamilton, Dan Duncan
and Paul Kelly tied the
game at three after one
period.
The middle period
belonged to the Sailors as
they outscored Mount
Forest 3-1 to hold a 6-4
lead after two periods.
Duncan and Kelly each
scored their second goal
of the game in the second
period and Steve Meriam
adde the other.

. The Goderich Lions
Pee Wees absorbed their
first setback of the season
in WOAA hockey action in
Mitchell last Tuesday
when they were defeated
7-3.
The Lions had
previously defeated
Mitchell 14 - 3 in the first
meeting of the two teams,
but Mitchell turned
things around Tuesday
and were full -value for
their win. __Mitchell held a.
2 - i lead after the first
period, but the game was
tied 3 - 3 after two
periods. The final period
belonged to the home
team as Mitchell scored
four unanswered goals to
wrap up the victory.
Big Brad Pauli led
Mitchell with four goals.
Linemate Tony Chaffe
scored the other three
Mitchell goals.
The Lions got single
counters from Pete
Conlon, -Rob Gibbons and
Grant Garrow. Trevor
Erb had two assists and
Shawn Rahben and
Trevor Martin had one
assist each.
The loss leaves the
Lions with a record of six
wins and one loss in
league play. . Their
scheduled game here
Saturday against
Seaforth had to be
postponed because of ice -
plant problems at the
arena. Tonight (Thur-
sday) the.. -Lions play in
Listowel.. Their neNt
home game is here
Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
against Wingham.
Sunday the Lions travel
to Seaforth for their first
game against the high-
flying Beavers.

Steel Bantams won their
third straight league
game Saturday thurrlping

action in Clinton.
The Steelers took

in the final period.
Paul Day led the
Steelers offensively with
three goals. Het scored

Stars rack up
27 goals in
two games
The Goderich Signal -
Star juveniles racked up
a total of 27 goals in
recording two lopsided
victories in Shamrock
League action last week.
Last Wednesday the
Stars humbled St. Marys
14-1 in St. Marys and here
Sunday they thumped
Dorchester 13-0.
The two victories
improved the Stars'
season performance to an
impressive nine wins in
10 league games. Their
only loss was to Belmont.
Larry Daer came
through with a fine of-
fensive performance in
the 'game against St.
Marys scoring four goals
and adding four assists
for eight points. Bill
Peters added three goals
and two assists while
John Clement and Roger
'Lewis chipped in with two
goals apiece.
Rob MacDonald, Larry
Gaynor and Greg Hallam
scored one goal apiece for
Goderich.
The Stars scored five
times in the first period,
increased the margin to
11-1 after two periods and
completed the rout with
three goals in the final
period.
The Stars 4 came
through with a similar
effort here Sunday
bombing Dorchester 13-0
for their eighth win.
Clement led the 13 -goal
outburst with a fine five -
goal performance. He
scored once in the
opening period, added
three goals in the second
period and one in the
third.
