The Goderich Signal-Star, 1979-12-06, Page 8PAGE 8 —GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6, 1979 Letter to the Editor Re.:der :ay.s Dear Editor Mr. Khomeini—The Sick Man of Iran The most irrational and inhumane behaviour of Mr. Khomeini and his followers has severely damaged the image of Iran, of Islam as a religion and of the Muslims all over the world to an extent that the relationship between the Muslims and the U.S.A. may never be the same for a long time to come. There is no precedence in modern history where an entire embassy staff of a foreign gountry has been wrested and treated in a shameless way - even if the U.S. Embassy staff were spies, the in- ternational law provides remedy in the form of declaring the staff as "persons -non -grate" and deportation. Mr. Khomeini first asked the Iranians to depose the Shah. He should have asked the people to arrest and try Shah on whatever charges he wanted. In my personal opinion, it is to the credit of Shah that he bowed to the in- ternational as well as the people's pressure and decided to leave Iran. The Shah is stili .the legal head of the state till the new 'constitution is approved and at present, Mr. Khomeini and his followers do not have any legal status in Iran. It is also to the credit of Shah that he left Iran with a government of a moderate leader and who was a friend of Mr. Khomeini. Mr. Khomeini left Iran decades ago while the going was rough and continued --- •the struggle _from -Paris in a Taxui-1771 was Mr. hah- pur Bakhtayar and other national leaders who stayed in Iran and con- tinued the struggle Attend school reunion. In response to further questioning, Mr. Wright said, "I was busy and I had a lot more on my mind than_ a few little beans...it just never crossed my mind." Earlier in the trial, Mr. Dale told the court he didn't grow any white beans in 1978. In answer to the drown attorney's question, "Did you ever have Ken Wright deliver any beans for the co-op in 1978?", Mr. Dale replied, "No." He told the court he, didn't receive any money from the beans. Donald Scott, manager of the Ontario Bean Growers' Co-operative testified on Tuesday that the cheque for,the beans in Mr. Dale's name had never been picked up. The people of Iran revolted against the Shah not due to his deportation. Most', off the Afro -Asian leaders are deports. Most of the revolt was organized by two elements, viz; the Communism and the religion. The Shah was strong enough to deal with Communism but he miscalculated the power of religion. It was his great blunder to .oppose the Communists and the Mullehs similutaneously. He should have never stopped paying money to the Mullehs. The Shah was perhaps not fully aware that the Iranians looked upon the religious leaders as "divine". It was therefore the belief of the people of Iran in Mr. Khomeini's Divinity as well as ignorance of his mental state that brought the revolt against the Shah. The Shah was really naive and not better than Mr. Khomeini in many ways. The Shah annoyed ti Got an opinion? If Mr. Khomeini is examined by a team of psychiatrists, he is likely to be diagnosed as suf- fering from "paranoia" as well as the onset of "senility". When everything would, one day, be settled in Iran, I am sure that the Iranians are bound to reach the decision that the Shah was a lesser evil.
