Stratford's Ronald Marcy elected chairman of Rh

board at a meeting in
Dublin Monday. He
. Marcy, head of the
mathematics department
at Northwestern
Secondary School in

Marcy said one of the
main things facing the
board in the coming year
is declining enrolment as
it has been the past two
years. He said the board
has faced this by
chfnging boundaries in
Stratford and triple
grades in some schools.
He said staffing was a
concern with the 19
schools in the system
overstaffed according to
the board's formula. In
1980 he said he is hopeful
of getting the staff to
what it should be.
In Kingsbridge in-
tegrated transportation
has been working out
satisfactoril
Christmas
cheque
Mark Ralthby, third vice-president of the
Bluewater Shrine_, Club, a division of Mocha
Temple, London, presented a cheque to CAS
director John Penn last week to be used for the
Christmas Fund. The Christmas fund is set up to
assist needy families with the purchase of gifts and
food at Christmas. Last year the fund assisted 250

Drivers don't adapt
Safe Driving Week

December 1 to 7 has
been declared Safe
.Driving Week by the
Canada' Safety Council
but you'd never know it
from this week's accident
report in Goderich.
A rash of accidents
occurred here over the.
weekend. Most were
caused by people not
adapting to weather
conditions, says Police
Chief Pat King.
On November 30 at 5:25
p.m. there was an ac-
cident involving._. •two_
ve 'Teles at Elgin Avenue
..and Toronto Street. At
9-: 3-3 -pin th-ere w a s
another accident when a
car hit a hydro pole on
Waterloo Street. A third
accident occurred that
same evening at 9:45
p.m. when a vehicle hit a
parked vehicle on Eldon
Street.
At 1 a.m. on December
1, a parked vehicle was

At 12 : 06 p. m. on
„December 1, there was a
minor accident on the
Square at North Street.
Then at 12:30 p.m. a
minor hit and run was
,,4 reported when it was
discovered that a car
parked outside Goderich
Glass on South Street had
been hit the evening •
before. At 1:12 p.m. there'
was a major accident
involving, tw.o vehicles at
Huron and Britannia
Roads.
At 9:56 a.m. on
December 2, it was
reported that a 'vehicle
had slid into a stop sign at

Wellesley Street and
Britannia Road and then
left the scene. At 6:02
p; m. the same day, a
driver lost control of his
car and hit a tree at the
corner of Albert and
Newgate Streets.
At 11:3.6 a.m. on
December 3, two vehicles
were involved in an ac-
cident outside 38 Nelson
Street.
No serious injuries
resulted from any of
these accidents and Chief
_King _would ._warn.._people
-once again to adapt their
driving .to -the -weather
and road conditions
'While there were
numerous accidents, only
twothefts were reported.
A Ford van was stolen
from the Green and
Parent lot on they evening
of November 30 and later
recovered in Stratford.'
This ,.theft is still under
investigation.

stolen sometime between
November 23 and 28 from
a building under con-
' struction on the Square.
There were several
castes of wilful damage
during the week.
On November 29 a lawn
on Britannia Road was
`torn up by,a vehicle.

In the early morning on
November 30, a window
was • broken by a beer
bottle at G.D.C.I. causing
$75 damage.
In the early morning of
December 1, a window in
a house on Raglan Street
was broken causing
minor damage.
On December 1, the
thermostat inside the
post office was broken by
a beer bottle.
A,pd on November 30 or
December 1, the front
-window of the Tender
Years clothing store on
Kingston Street was
broken by a beer bottle
causing $400 damage.
Police feel that the
damage at G.D.C.I., the
post office and the Tender
Years. store was probably
all caused by the same
person or persons.
Chief King has war-
nings for both
storekeepers add
s'tro'ppers d-uring this`
holiday season. He warns
storekeepers to beware of
shoplifters and he warns
shoppers not to leave
gifts in unlocked cars.
He is also asking Ifeople
who have Christmas
lights stolen' from their
property to report the
.thefts to police im-
mediately.
