The Housing Action
Committee (HAC)
learned at a meeting last
Thursday that a
municipal housing
Statement will now 'be a
prerequisite for
municipalities applying
to the Ontario Housing
Corporation (OHC) for
financial aid for assisted
housing, such as the rent -
geared -to -income senior
citizens' apartment
building being built on
Waterloo Street in
Goderich.
Dave Cowan of the
market surveys division
'Of OHC' 'told the com-
mittee that it was not a
matter of "if" the town
has ,to have a municipal
housing statement but
"when".
He told the committee
that a municipal housing
staterdent was ,..now
required by the Ministry
of Housing for all assisted
housing programs before
any funds could be
received.

These questionnaires
are designed to show
whether the need for
assisted housing exists in
the community and also
can help the community
establish a general
housing policy, said
Cowan. They take into

Joe Morrissey buys land strip
for $4,000 from local airport
At a meeting on
November 21, the
Goderich Airport
Committee passed a"
motion to recommend to
town council that the sum
of $4,000 paid by Joe
Morrissey for the pur-
intersection in front of the
town owned hangar and
connected into the
existing storm sewer.
This sewer had also been
flushed by the Works
Department, he said.

future growth with
regards to housing,"
explained Cowan.
Hc said that if the
municipality d:d not want
to use the ministry's
questionnaire!: and direct
technical assistance, it
had the option of hiring a
consultant with the aid of
fundingfrom the
ministry. Either way, he
said, the assisted housing
survey would be the
responsibility of the
municipality.
The advantage to
hiring a consultant, he
said, would be that the
consultant would take a
little less time and would
do both the statement and
the survey. The ministry
would only do the
statement , leaving the
municipality responsible
for, the survey. He, also
said a consultant
probably would not
charge more than the
grant being offered to the
municipality by the
ministry for consultants'
fees.
He said there could be
some overlapping bet-
ween the statement and
other documentls in the
possession of • the
municipality and that not
all municipalities may
feel they need the
statement. But sooner or
later, if applying for
financial aid for .an
assisted housing
program, it would be
required.
