The House of the Bab which is a place of pilgrimage for Baha'is the world -over was at- tacked in. late September by an armed mob which began to systematically destroy the building. Baha'i appealed to their governments in scores of countries to intervene on their behalf. Baha'i communities around the world sent thousands of cables to the Government of the Iranian Republic. Within days , the demolition was halted. The destruction of the House of the Bab is as tragic to Baha'is as the destruction of the Wailing Wall would be to Jews, or the Church of the Nativity would be to Christians. Despite assurances given earlier to Baha'is by the Iranian government that it had no intention of destroying Baha'i properties the House of Bab has now' been cempke!tely razed arid demdlition work is continuing on adjacent Baha'i properties.
