Last period rally
gives midgets edge
The Goderich Green
and Parent Mustangs
scored seven goals in the
third period to overcome
a 4-0 deficit and defeat
Mitchell 7-4 in WOAA
midget action at the
Goderich Arena Satur-
day.
The midgets fell behind
by four goals after two
• periods of play despite
enjoying numerous
manpower advantages in
the second period. Mit-
chell scored the lone goal
of the first period and
added three straight
markers in the markers
in the second period to
build up a four -goal
cushion after4wo periods.
But penalties were the
undoing of the Mitchell
squad and Goderich
stormed back to score
seven goals in the final
period to record the win.
The visitors were.
assessed 11 minor
penalties in the final 20
minutes and two 10
minute misconducts.
Their game total included
21 minor penalties, three -
10 minute misconducts
and one gross miscon-
duct. Goderich racked up
eight two -minute minors
in the game.

the third period scoring
spree scoring three goals.

Goderich goals of the
period to get the offence
untracked.
Team-mates Larry
Boyce, Mike Paquette,
John Huff and Willie
Denomme added one goal
apiece for the Mustangs.
Jim •Fritzley led the
assist department setting
up three Goderich goals
while Denomme,.
Paquette and Rick Stahl
added two assists apiece.

Mustangs lose two
by Brian Marriage
The Clinton Mustangs
failed to gain any ground
on the third place team in
OHA Central Jr. 'C'
action last weekend when
they dropped two close
games.
Last Friday night in
Clinton, the Kincardine
Kinucks managed a 2-1
victory, while on Sunday
night the Walkerton
Black Hawks came from
behind and handed the
Stangs a 5-4 loss.
Clinton scored the first
goal in last Friday night's
contest early in the -
second period on a shot
by Ton/ Gibbings. The
Kinucks rebounded late
in the second period with
a pair of goals. The last
one which proved the
eventual winner, was a
controversial goal as
many fans say it failed to
enter the net but the
Kincardine goal judge
turned the light on.
Referee Bruce Griffin,
after a conference with
the goal judge, counted it.
The Mustangs travelled
to Hanover last Tuesday
night and will host
Wingham Ironmen this
Friday at 8:30 p.m. The
Stangs then travel to,,Port
Elgin on Sunday for a 3
p.m. afternoon contest.

Slow ice hampers
Industrial curling
The 1979-80 Industrial
League curling season
opened last week with a
test of endurance rather
than finesse as each team
struggled with extremely
slow ice. The difficult ice
was a major factor in
AM &G Hospital No. 1
teams victory over the
Champion Girls as Sylvia
Bolan and associates
were unable to conquer
the ice while Ron Klages
and his stronger team
muscled their way to a 17-
2 triumph.
Cam Bogie and the
powerful Foresters
avenged last year's loss
to the Huron County
,.Health Unit by an-
nihilating their opponents
to the ,tune of 10-2. This
match displayed some
precise curling in the
early going with Jim
14: wkins and Don Hunan
showing the way but the
wet ic reduced the game
to basics in the final few
ends.
The Assessment Office,
led by the fine curling of
Dennis Lebrun and Jim
Bell, caught Bruce
Erskine and the Victoria
and Grey unit on a bad
night and handed them a
7-3 loss.
Bill Hayward had a
strong night for the
Champion Sales Office as
they dumped the Victoria
Sweepers 5-1. Some key
shots in the early action
were the deciding factor
as the final ends saw only
blanks or a single point
produced. Don Budnark's
aggressive style made
him the most noticeable if
not the most accurate
player on the unfortunate
teacher foursome.

The
final 4-3 score is a good
indication of the eveness
of these two teams.
„It„ took „-ta.v,a extra ends-

champions, Local 1863
would concede defeat to
their old rivals, the GDCI
Teachers. The teachers,
led by the strong curling
of Bill Worsell and Doug
Bundy along with the
clutch performance of
Donna Doidge, fought
back from a bad start to
sneak past the former
champions 6-5. Local 1863
skip, Jack Kellough,
curled expertly in the
early ends before the ice
turned terrible and
veteran player Tom
("Silent Broom") Profit
was steady throughout
the very close encounter.
The Industrial League
welcomed three new
teams to this year's
competition and two of
the three began their
season with victories.
