Sound 84-58 The Goderich Gee Gee's finally put together two ' good halves of of- fensive basketball in a 84- 58 win over arch rivals, Owen Sound Friday. It was the Double G's superior bench strength which made the dif- ference as the Goderich reserves. outscored the opposition bench 42 - 0. Owen Sound played catch up ball throughout the first half and despite being badly outplayed only trailed 42 - 39 at half time. tt The second half was highlighted by stingy defence with Goderich coming up with many'key "turnovers. Owen Sound finally wilted under the Gee Gee pressure as Jim Snider,one of the league's top scorers, Left the game with his fifth personal foul. Offensively Goderich had four players in double figures: Paul Tomass - 16, Jeff Baechler - 15, Warren Watt - 14 and Al Sygrove - 12. Gee Gee's next action is December 6 in Port Elgin and then they return home on Friday, Dec. 7 to play Walkerton. Six goals in final period lifts Lions The Goderich Lions Pee Wees recorded their sixth consecutive victory in WOAA hockey_ action here Saturday when they blasted the Listowel Cyclones, 11-5. The .Lions are undefeated in league play and hold down first place in the league standings.- The game with Listowel .._ . was .. close for two periods, with the �".� _ _=xons-l-ea-diug-3=2-after.the first period and 5-4 after two periods. In the third period, the Lions pulled away from the Cyclones, outscdring them 6-1. Seven different players sggred .gpa•Is.. Goderich. ` The line .of Robin Moore, Peter Conlon and Mike Collins • ccou'tited'for four goals; with Moore scoring twice and Conlon and Collins getting a goal and two assists. Todd Graham recorded a three -goal hat -trick and Rob. Gib- bons blinked the red light • twice for the Lions. Grant Garrow had a goal and two assists _for a three- point night. Defenceman Todd Jeffrey scored the last Goderich goal on a good shot from the point. Trevor Erb, Scott Stokes and Brent Williamson all had one assist each. John Henry had three goals for the Cyclones and Todd Hutton scored the other two. The game was hard- fought, and got a bit chippy in the third period as the Cyclones became frustrated as the score • mounted ` against them. GODERICH SIGNAL STAR THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29.1979 --PAGE 13 Bantam Ws defeat Huron Parr in two games The Goderich Bantam Bs improved their season record this past week in WOAA league play. disposed of Huron Park 6, chalking up two victories Last Wednesday the Bs 2 in a game played in Goderich and Saturday they swept the second leg of the home and home series with a 3-1 win in Huron Park. Don McCallum and Jeff Feagan sparked the Godes iY.lt - offence —with two goals apiece while Doug Smith and Paul Jeffrey added one goal apiece. The teams tied 2-2 after one period of play with McCallum scoring both his goals in the first period. Goderich took control of the play in the second period scoring three straight goals for a 5-2 lead heading into the final period. Smith scored the only goal of the final period to clinch the win.\ The Bs found the going a little tougher in Huron Park Saturday as they needed two third period goals to claim a 3-1 win. The teams played through a scoreless first period and Lee Frsiby put Goderich in the lead midway through the second period witha power play goal. Frisby gave Goderich some breathing room with his second power play goal at 7.42 of the final period and McCallum, added an insurance marker late in the period banging in a pass from Paul Brenner and Tim Chisholm. Huron park spoiled Randy Gaynor's shutout bid scoring with only nine seconds remaining in regulation time. ;The Bs next home game is Wednesday November 28 at 8 p.m. and on Saturday they will play at 4 p.m. shotO O The illness you'll never see coming.
