Christians need a knowledge of Jesus Christ
BY THE REV.
E. J. DENTINGER
PASTOR OF
ASHFIELD
We cannot grasp the
meaning of a Christian.
unless we have adequate
knowledge of Christ. To
be called Christian im-
plies that, in some way,
one follows the teachings
and example of .Christ.
Otherwise the name
"Christian" is, for that
person, a sham and void
of meaning.
Thebospel accounts of
the life of Christ have
been subjected to the
most critical analysis and
scrutiny that any book
has ever received. New
evidence uncovered in
research always affirms
the authenticity of the
writings.
Jesus performed his
miracles to prove his
divine sonship, to prove
his claim to be believed.
His teaching stirred
men's hearts, "for no
man had ever spoken as
this man."
He demanded full faith,
as to one sent by the
Father to te,ach mankind
the way to salvation and
peace.
The unique thing about
Minister'
stud
Christ is not that He is a
stupendous historical
hero, a wise person or
wonder worker. What
makes Him apart from
all others is that He rose
from death. Had He not
risen, as St. Paul says,
then would our faith be in
vain. Had His death and
crucifixion been the end,
the disciples would have
thought of Him as a great
man but only a man and
not what He claimed to be
- the Son. of God.
It was Christ's
resurrection that made,
the whole difference; as
St. Paul says: "Christ is
alive and dies no more".
The faith of the
Apostles was deeply
shaken by His death on
the cross. But when they
later realized that He was
aline, th"v understood
His words spoken a short
time before His death: "I
am with you all days to
the end of the world."
To be a Christian then,
not only means accepting
the teachings of Christ,
but believing in a living
Christ. The true Christian
communicates with the
living Christ by prayer,
private and public.
If he fails to live his
Christianity, he is but a
sounding brass or a
tinkling symbol.
But to those who live
their faith, this is the
