The Goderich Signal-Star, 1979-11-22, Page 25Love, Martha. Man: "Will you marry me?" "No, but I admire your taste.'' t? These girls were enrolled into the Fourth Goderich Brownie Pack during a special ceremony in Vic- toria Public School gym last Thursday. Front row, left to right, are Barb Hallam, Heidi Zoethout, Round'n 'About (Intended for last week) The Sunday snowfall was still on the ground this morning - Monday. AND the sun was shining. I think perhaps I have been waiting for this - for honestly, I like to seethe snow. But, Walt took one look and grumbled - "We should have been 1,000 miles south of here by now." Snow has a lot of good and bad memories for us. Luckily - for me - the bad things go to the back of my mind and I have to concentrate in.. order to recall them, so I.don't .try —too -harms One, I recall, didn't happen to us but to two good friends - (and it isn't a •-baddee) - happened way out in Manitoba. Friends, Don and Vickie, had been to the base Rec Hall or Mess - anyway, there was a dandy party and, it wasn't until the wee hours that the -heavy snowfall was discovered. Father had partied too much so- it was up to mother to drive home. She was new at -this - and a little nervous. The area was also new to her and new the roads were being covered quickly bythe blizzard that was raging. Nothing looked right but . she set out with a wave -.:and a laugh - • you know Vicky! - and tried to follow the fast disap- pearing car tracks- lDriving along blindly (like under a blanket!), suddenly everything went BLACK! She' jammed on the.brakes - but no impact - nothing happened! She shook • father, who was sound asleep on the back seat and after much explaining, father gingerly opened the door of the Volks- and stepped out. After a lot of loud noises and clawing around, he returned to his seat. "Well," he said, "I've seen , everything now! I don't know how you managed it but you're smack dab in the middle of a hay stack." Well, that's not all - they had to fight their way back to civilization and next day - wjth helpers - had to jab all those snow covered mounds to find "The Bug". .Anyone who has lived Martha out on the Manitoba prairie can appreciate this dilemma but to us Easterners, it took a bit of explaining. But then, it could only happen to certain people, Don believes. So watch where you're going this winter. You might end up in a blackout too. Here's another thing that comes with snow, TOYS' - and what to buy. and --what to give away. - .Now, there are lots of children who could enjoy those toys that are being relegated to the back of the cupboard or the bottom of the toy box. I know that many of them are still in pretty good shape - those are the ones that could go to the TOY DROP - for the many needy kids in this area. Now - I don't know of any family who would accept the .word - needy - iofs,, ik?% CALL • Nursery Stock • Rolling • Fertilizing • Aerifying • Vertieutting • Seeding & Sodding • Instant Shade Trees Mothers Landscaping st Lawn Maintenance 524-2401 Andrea Horton, Michele Glenn, Virginia Hook and Karen Armstrong, Back row, left to right, are Stephanie Thomson, Paula Desjardins and Liz Sheardown. The TOY DROPS are handy, one in the MET and one in another s.pot in Suncoast Mall. There will also be drops in Woolworths, Peoples Store; Breckenridge's Gift Shop and the Canadian Tire. There may even be more than this. Just yvatch or ask anywhere that toys are being sold. For those toys that -are "good" but may need a slight repair, tag them with the broken part ,or just an explanation of what is ,wrong. This will help in repairing and will be just fine for another year or more. Even Discount Dave will help out here! It is just great to see people of all ages working together and with Martha enjoying it. And it is work - and don't you doubt it for a minute. All the people who worked backstage on Fiddler should be mentioned but again, space permits only a few names. Ruth Leonard had a big job as stage manager and is to be complimented.
