Male 'choral singing
seems to be making a
comeback, says Phil
Main, this year's
president of the Goderich
Harbouraires.
In line with this
statement, he says en-
thusiastically, "This is
probably one of the most
active years we (the
Harbouraires) have ever
had!"
The Harbouraires, an
all -males choral group,
was founded by the late
George Buchanan in. 1947.
At present there are 28
members in the group.
Some of these members,
have been with the group
since it was first formed:
Some of the members
drive to weekly
rehearsals at North
Street United Church in
Goderich from Clinton,
Blyth and Bayfield. One
member drives all the
way from Stratford.
Lorne Dotterer is the
director of the Har-
bouraires and Mr. Main
says he has to be given a
lot of credit for picking up
the group where George
Buchanan left off.'
The Harbouraires each
wear matching navy
jackets and grey pants.
They have just ordered
hand woven red ties from
New Brunswick . and to
complete their en-
sembles, they are looking
for more red and white
crests which were
produced during
Goderich's Sequicen-
tennial year. If anyone
has such crests at home,
the Harbouraires would
appreciate receiving
them to wear on their
navy jackets. They can

When we shop Canadian, it's more .
than a good idea. It's a great invest-
ment in our country's future. Every time
Canadians buy their own products,
they give Canadians work. Right here
in Ontario, manufacturing industries
employ about one million people.
"That's 250%o of all the jobs in Ontario.
When we shop Canadian, we

tacted since he is on the

The Harbourairs also
offer the George
Buchanan Memorial
music award to a dif-
ferent student at G.D.C.I.
each year.
Already the Har-
bouraies have a number
of singing dates lined up
for what is promising to
be an exciting season.
The group, sings church
anthems, spiritual songs,
classical songs, show
songs and some popular
songs --almost everything
except barbershop
numbers.
Monday, December 10
is the date of the Har-
bouraires' first concert of
the new season. It will be
a Christmas concert and
carol sing complete with
guest artists at North
Street United Church at
8:15 p.m.
On February 2 the
Harbouraires will hold a
concert at Wesley -Willis

concert in Clinton, they
will take part in the
annual Mariners' Service
at Knox Presbyterian
Church in Goderich and
they will be taping a

Legion. The record, the

Harding'tiof Goderich, will
feature about 30 to 40
minutes of music by the
Harbouraires, arranged
by a professional music
writer. It will distributed
all across Canada and
may even put Goderich
on .the map, says Mr.
Main.
In April the Har-
bouraires will put on
another concert with the
Fleming -Grey Chorus
.from Cambridge. The
exact date and place for
this concert will be an-
nounced later.
On May 31 the - Har-
bouraires will be joining
a number of other all-
male choruses for a Big
Sing at Hamilton Place.
An audience of about
2,000 is expected with 400
male voices on stage. The
Harbouraires will sing a
solo number as well as
taking part in all the
massed choir numbers.
The Harbouraires are
always looking for new
members. Rehearsals
are Sunday afternoons in
the winter and Sunday
evenings during the other
seasons.
You'll probably be
hearing the name Har-
bouraires a lot this year.
Sit up and take notice.
