Industry expanding
Goderich Town Council
approved a recom-
mendation from the
Goderich Economic
Development Committee
(GEDC) on Monday,
November 12 to sell a
parcel of land in
Goderich's Industrial
Park . to Enviras.ou.n.ct
Canada Limited at the
proposed purchase price
of $5,000 per acre; and to
allow Envirosound,
producers of electrostatic
water treaters, to
proceed with building.
The parcel of land,
described as the westerly
150 feet of Part 11 and
Part 27 of the
Unregistered Plan by
Christian R. Kiar Ltd., is
approximately 1.8 acres
in area.
Terry Wilton and Louis
Wilton, representing
Envirosound, attended
the GEDC meeting on
November 8 to present
drawings and site plans
to enable them to pur-
chase property in the
Park.
Terry Wilton informed
GEDC members that the
sale of water treaters in
1979 is well ahead of
projection.
He presented members
with interior and exterior
drawings of the proposed
building where these
water treaters would be
produced. The building
would be of similar
construction to the J.B.
Allen building adjacent
and more specifically
would be a product of
Schiedel Construction
composed of a steel
manufacturing area at
the rear and a brick office
area located in front.
There would be little or
no outside storage in the -
production of the water
treaters, Mr. Wilton--
informed the committee.
He said he hoped that
expansionof the proposed-
plant could possibly take
place in 1980 or the spring
of 1981. He currently has
seven employees and it is
anticipated through'
expansion that this could
double in one year. •
Mr. Wilton indicated
that he would like to
commence construction
immediately.`'
The committee then.
came up with •the
recommendation ap-
proved by council, also
passing a motion that the
necessary legal
documentation be
prepared for council's
consideration at a future
date. .
In other businesSti the
committee agreed on its
function as being to try
and find industries and
encourage them to locate
in Goderich using
whatever land, etc. is
available while the
function of the Goderich
Industrial Development
Corporation is to attempt
to provide funds to build
facilities required byn
industries locating in
Goderich.
The committee passed
a motion, based on a
suggestion from Com-
missioner of Works, Ken
Hunter, that, since there
are funds remaining in
the GEDC budget, that
the draft survey of the
Industrial Park, as
reviewed by committee
members at past
. meetings, be registered.
On the suggestion of
GEDC chairman, Dave
,Gower, the committee
also passed a motion to
send a letter' of thanks to
Champion Road
Machinery Company for
the financial aid and co-
operation the company
provided for the
upgrading of Huckins
Street in the 'pldustrial
Park during 1979. The
company contributed by
placing sod and culverts
on the entrances to
Champions industries.
GEDC member Elsa
Haydon suggested that
chairman Gower prepare
for council a summary of
the past year of the
GEDC and perhaps a ten
year summary of the
committee's activities.
GEDC member Jack
Brady suggested that the
committee consider
placing funds from the
sale of property in a type
of reserve for purchase of
future industrial land.
Chairman Gower in-
formed him that a
reserve for the expansion
of Suneoast Drive, an
i#ltegral part of opening
up Industrial Park,
currently exists. Funds
from Borg-Warner in
excess of $44,000; from
Ben Graham $22,000; and
from Huromic Industries
$5,000 coupled with
$20,000 from the Town of
Goderich impost account,
in 1979, opened up in-
dustrial land and more
specifically the ex-
pansion of Suncoast
Drive.
It was suggested that
funds be considered in the
1980 budget for other
areas in Industrial Park,
more specifically along
Highway 21 and
beautification of the
entrance or entrances to
the Park.
Chairman; Gower in-
formed committee
members that he had had
a conversation with Mr.
Donaldson of Borg-
Warner Company and
that Mr. Donaldson had
stated that his company
is still planning on
locating in Goderich. The
delay in building, he said,
has been due to
t'tunomie-S and -the
present state of the auto
industry. But, he ; con-
tinued, the committee
and council may be
assured that no changes
in plans have been made.
Chairman Gower
requested committee
members to consider
various types of com-
mercial development atd
promotion' that they
should be aware of for the
next GEDC meeting on
December 1,3.
