GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 4979 --PAGE 3A
Film night at Public Librarya success
BY LORNA VINCENT
The Goderich Art Club
held 'an open film night
for its November meeting
at the local library.
President Gailya
Mag -u i -r a we k o-rn ad
members and guests:
Isabel Watson of the
library staff manned the
projector. It was a
pleasure to see so many
outsiders interested in art
films.
The sequence had been
well chosen for balance,
colour and general in-
terest: first, Glen Loates,
the famous Canadian
painter of wild life in
"Colour it Living"; and
next Toiler Cranston in a
dramatic display of his
art as a skater as well as
a painter.
He explains that his
paintings are all fan-
tasies which he sees in his
dreams. The canvases
are so filled with pattern,
colour and movement
that they are anything
but restful to the eye.
They remind one of the
Persian Miniatures, only
on a large scale with a
more intricate pattern, a
very stylized art form
and a great sense of
exotic colour contrasts.
Robert Bellegarde, the
well-known Prairie
Indian artist, demon-
strated his skill in .por-
traying native Indian
subjects.
Two short films dealt
with the later abstract
period of Lawren Harris
which contrasted with the
uncanny super realicm of
Alex Culville. The film
showed the artists at
work in their respective
studios and speaking with
students.
The final film,
"Painting a-Prey-inee"-,
dealt .with the in-
terpretations of Jack
Humphry of St. Johps,
New Brunswick, an artist
who caught the varied
beauty of his province in,
its many rnoods for all the
world to enjoy.
At the close of the film,
a short business meeting
was held to plan the pre -
Christmas party which
will , take place on
Saturday, December 8 in
the basement of MacKay
Hall. A buffet supper will
be followed by music and
games.
After discussion, it was
decided to postpone the
club's donation to the
Livery Theatre until it
begins the drive for
funds.
The nominating
committee of Annie
Finnigan and Jean Prest,
presented the slate of
officers for 1980 as
follows:

be selected as Huron
County's 1979-80 Dairy
Princess.
The Dairy Princess
acts as a goodwill am-
bassador for the milk
producers in the county.
The basic goal of the
program is to improve
communications between
-the producer and the
consuming public. The.
objectives are to improve
nutritional knowledge
and the understanding of
modern dairy farming.
Visits to service clubs,
women's groups, schools
and participation in
various community
functions are typical
Dairy Princess activities
which help to meet the
goals of the program.
