Topic of the day was,
—Discipline Strategies
That Work", which was
presented by Dr: Ed Pino
of the Educational
Consultant' Association
Services from Denver,
Colorado.
Dr. Pino is a former
teacher, principal and
director of education. He
was, for a time, in charge
of United States
education overseas, and
has lectured throughout
Canada and the U.S. His
name appears in "Who's
Who in America."
Dr. Pino maintained
that uniqueness should be
one of the goals of
education and warned
educators against
producing "assembly-
line"°graduates.
He challenged teachers
to keep children busy in
order to prevent
boredom, which, Jie
argued, is the cause of 90
percent of all discipline
problems.
He offered many new
and interesting
suggestions on' ac-
complishing this.
Dr. Pino's dynamic
delivery combined with
the timely topic, held the
attention of the audience
throughout the day, and
provided stimulation to
try his methods.
Small attendance, great plays at GDCI
BY JOANNE
BUCHANAN
Trigon '79 came and
went without much notice
-this weekend at G.D.C.I.
The three evenings of
one act plays, as
presented by members of
the G.D.C.I. drama club,
drew only, small
audiences each night. It
was obvious that club
members had worked
hard at each of the plays
and they deserved more
than the appreciative
applause that a few
teachers„ some fellow
students and a smat-
tering of parents could
give them.
This year, drama club
members tried
something new. Four of
the six plays presented
were directed by drama
'club students themselves.
Since six _plays were too
long for one evening, the
playbill was varied over
each of the ___three
evenings with four plays
being presented per
evening.
Nobody Sleeps was a
delightful comedy
directed by student
Allison Bain with Shawn
Worse]] as stage
manager.
In this play, Greg
Smith portrays a
frustrated and not -too -
clever burglar who
stumbles into the wrong
house to rob. He is con-
fronted by' three sisters,
played by Melanie
Dustow, Lori Dykstra
and Shirley Hall and their
mother, played by Janice
Robinson. -These women
reduce him to a bundle of
nerves and he leaves
without taking a thing..
The Still Alarm,
written in the style of a
drawing -room comedy,
was directed by students -
Angela Carter and Beth
Morris. 1
Laura Raithby and
Suzanne Smith visit t
together calmly in n hotel s
room as the building
burns down around them s
in this zany play. Cheryl
Main and Anne Smith
play a couple of un-
concerned firewomen
who come to put out the
blaze and Patrick
Madden plays the bellboy
who dutifully announces
the fire in the first place.
The Trysting Place, a
more serious play set in a
arge country hotel
catering exclusively to
he rich, was directed by
t ii nt Terri Lounch
with Jackie Meriam as
tage manager.
Terri Couch takes time out from her directing duties to apply some make-up
to one of her actors, Andrew Ross. Terri directed The Trysting Place, one of
six plays performed by members of the G.D.C.I. drama club during Trigon
'79 last weekend. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan)
This play revolves
around various romances
and stars Lisa Roske,
Andrew Ross, Tammy
Louch, Gillian Bain,
Dean Doherty, Greg
Wilson and the voice of
Neil Coughlan.
The World Tipped Over
and Laying On Its Side
was my personal favorite
of the six plays. The
acting was excellent with
each member of the cast
taking on several roles. ft
was directed by student
Sandra Gauley with
assistance from Kevin
Bundy and Patrick
,Murphy. These three also
portrayed all the
characters in the "play
along with Anthony Renee Lortie, -Kevin
Murphy) as he relives
memories of his life in an•
attempt to locate his lost
soul.

are portrayed by Marilyn

is a serious play
