The GDCI senior
Vikings lost their first
game off the season here
last Wednesday when
they were shaded 29-26 by
the first place Stratford
Central girls basketball
team.
The game was well -
played by both teams.
Stratford held a one -point
lead, 18-17 at halftime,
but by three-quarter
time, the Vikings held a
five -point lead. Stratford
regained the lead in the
final quarter when the
Vikings seemed unable to
make things work.
Viking coach Donna
Doidge hopes to meet
Central again in the
leasue finals to see if
some changes in her
team's offence could
produce better results.
Sonja Lapaine had
eight points for Goderich
while Bonnie Reid and
Heidi Elliott had six
apiece. Jenni More added
five. `
Stephanie Ochman
topped Stratford with
nine points.
Monday in Stratford
the Vikings finished their
regular schedule with a
47-33 victory over.
Stratford Northwestern.
Heidi Elliott and Karen
Melady had 10 points
each for Goderich.,
Skaters
pass tests
Seven members of the
Goderich Figure Skating
Club recently passed
tests at Iwo test ,days ,held
at the Goderich com-
munity Centre.
On October 24, Alana
• Graham and Tracy Ginn
passed their beginners
test and Laurie Ann Dale •
and Mary Jo Collins
completed their
elementary ...test. Dale
and Collins are now
working on basic.
On October 27 'Debbie
boak, Cindy Bushell and
Monica Etzler all passed
their basic tests and are
now working on Novice 1.
Bonnie. Reid added eight,
Jenny More got six and
Sonja Lapaine chipped in
with five points for the
winners.
The Vikings record of
nine wins and one 'loss
gives them second place
in the final standings. and
puts them into a sudden
death semi-final game
here today (Thursday)
against Wingham. The
finals will be a two -game
total point series next
Tuesday and Thursday.

Heather Minielly was a
standout for Goderich
and was the game's top
scorer with nine points.
Robin MacDonald had
seven- for the Vikings and
Mona Gleason added six.
Barb Conlon 'hit for four

Lomas each had two
points.
Lori Sippel led Strat-
ford with five points.
The game featured a
fine defensive effort by
the Vikings. They were
able to maintain their
composure even when
Stratford overcame a 12 -
3 halftime deficit to trail
by only 16 - 12 at one
point.
Monday in Stratford
the junior Vikings lost
their second game of the
s ason -when -they were
defeated 30 - 20 by Nor-
thwestern. The loss
leaves the Vikings with a
record of eight wins and
two losses at the con-
clusion of the regular
schedule. Five teams
finished with identical
records of 8 - 2, at the top
of the final standings,
complicating the league
playoff structure.

were thrilled last Friday

League Oldtimers
displayed some fine
hockey skills on their way

Junior "C" Oldtimers 7-5.
Even though many of
them have gray hair and
don't exhibit the same
speed they did on Hockey
Night in Canada, there's
still plenty of skill left in
most of them, par-
ticularly Norm Ullman,
who many say could still
help the Leafs, and even
Wally Stancowski, who
turned 60 recently.
