Stealers lose
first game 6-5
The Goderich Lakeport
Steel Bantams Lost their
first game of the season
here Saturday dropping a
6-5 decision to Listowel.
Ther loss evened the
Steelers record at a win
and a loss following their
,opening game win over
Clinton.
A defensive lapse in the
second period proved to
be costly as Listowel
broke a 2-2 tie scoring
three goals in a two
minute span to hold a
three -goal bulge headin
into the final period.
Goderich fought back
with a strong third period
that produced three goals
but Listowel got an
unassisted goal from
Bruce Gooding and hung
on to win.
Listowel led 2-1 after
the first period of play
with Brad Armstrong
scoring the lone Goderich
goal from John Thom-
pson. The Steelers tied
the game early in the
second period on a goal
by Paul Day but Listowel
struck for three goals in
two minute§ to carry a 5-2
lead into the final period.
Goderich got third
period goals from
Armstrong and Thom-
pson to pull within one
before Gooding scored
the winner with less than
three minutes remaining
in the game.
Nick Trebish scored the
final Goderich goal late in
the period.
This Saturday the
Steelers will host Mitchell
in a 7 p.m. contest at the
Goderich Community
Centra
Lions thrash
Listowel 12-1
The Goderich Lions
. Pee Wees made their
opening game of the
WOAA hockey schedule
an impressive one,
thrashing Listowel 12 1
here last Saturday night.
The Lions showed a fine
team effort, based on an
excellent passing attack
that , outclassed the
Cyclones.

before John Henry scored
the only Listowel goal,
and from there on, it was
all Lions as they scored
five unanswered goals in
each of the second and
third periods to win
handily.
Todd Graham 'had a
six -point night for
Goderich, scaring four
s.,a.a a„u tuunting two
assists. Trevor Erb had
two goals and an assist
and Mike Collins also
scored twice for the
Lions. Shawn Rahbek,
who played a strong
game defensively for the
Lions, scored one goal
and had ,four assists.
Grant Garrow, who' also
played well, had a goal
and two assists. Rob
1' .ons and Scott Stokes
were the other Goderich
goal -getters. Ken Huff
and Brent Williamson
were each' credited with
one assist. • ”
The Lions make their
¢'second league start
tonight (Thursday) in
Wingham and play at
home Saturday night at
5:30.. p.m. against Mit-
chell. ,.
O'Briens lead in
CHHLL standings
Holmesvil•7e and

games in a battle for first
place in the Central
Huron Hockey League.
O'Briens won their
third game of the season
Wednesday, 9-3 over
Whetstones, and then lost
to Holmesville 7-4 in the
first meeting between the
teams, Thursday. But
O'Briens rebounded with
a 7-5 decision ' over
Holmesville in the second
meeting Sunday to take
over first place in the
five -team league. In
other action Sunday,
Sunset defeated Burger
Bar 10-6.
,O'Briens leads the
league with four wins
against two losses while
Holmesville has three
victories in four games.
Sunset Gblf is third with a
2-2 record while Burger
Bar has one win in three
games and Whetstones is
winlessafter three
outings.

The Goderich Industrial Fastball League held their annual
awards banquet Saturday and honored several players for their
.,season performance. The winners included; Dave Scholl, batting
champ; Brian Bowman, best catcher; Rob MacDonald, rookie of
the year; Tom O'Keefe, playoff MVP; George Klumper, league

MVP; John Hoy, most sportsmanlike player and best fielder and
Miles Murdoch and Al Sygrove shared the most improved player

Forester team wins in Mount Forest
Recently two teams
from the Benmiller
Foresters bowled in
Mount " Forest in the
Dominion of Canada
Foresters Roll Off for'the
Western Ontario
Division. Both teams did
well and came in first and
third among eight teams.
The first place team,
which bowled 5850 points
over six games, consisted
of Leone Thom, Judy
Sproule, Bob Rising,
Doug ' Fuller, and Eric
Miller. Leone received
the women's high single
trophy with a 220 game.
Rob Rising won .the high
six games trophy with a
total of 1429. He bowled
an 816 triple and a 310
single.
Belfountain- Foresters
were second with 5810
points. The third place
team bowled for 5677
points over six games.
Those who took part were
Ted and Sylvia "Johnston,
Mary Bissett, Mary
Johnston, and Dave
Sowerby. Mary Bissett
received the high
women's triple trophy
with a total of 616.
Congratulations
everyone for a job well
done.
The DJ's have captured
first place. Dave Sowerby.
had a great single of 358
and a triple of 765. They
took seven points from
the seventh place Duf-
fers.
Lucky Six have
squeezed into second
place with the help of
Marg Hall's 217 single.
They took five , points
from sixth place George's
Gophers despite Jack
Gilbert's 232 single.
The Sunday Delights
are in third place. They
grabbed four points from
the fifth place BBs. Ruth
Bushell hit a 216 single..
Lucy Johnston also
bowled a 216 single to help
the sixth place Gutter
Kings take five .points
from the fourth place Bad
Ones. President's Choice
blanked last place Bob's
Angels for seven points to
tie for sixth place.
