GLT prepares for Fiddler
BY ANNA MELSKI
AND EILEEN
BEAUCHEMIN
The new Goderich
Little Theatre season is
beginning with a very
• encouraging response to
the season ticket cam-
paign. GLT would like to
thank the old members
for their continued
support and welcome the
new members who are
looking forward to their
first G.L.T. play.
The first offering,
"Fiddler on the Roof", a
musical with a large cast
composed of -G.L.T.
actors, high school
students and town band,
opens at the high school
on November 14 and runs
to November 17.
Ruth Leonard, stage
‘o
manager. for "Fiddler",
says the sets are finished
and Madam Director
Eleanor Robinson says
that the play is coming
together , very well.
Eleanor says the" dance
numbers were quite a
challenge because the
• men had to learn the
"Russian Kick" and the
women some ballet
numbers. It sounds like a
very energetic 'play.
Although the ages of
the cast run from nine to
65, Eleanor feels they all
blend very well together.
Erla Stewart is the
choral director with Htigh
McGregor conducting the
orchestra. Muriel and
Patty Reinhart are doing
wardrobe and Fatty is
also doing set decoration.
All in all, this play
promises to be one of

Wedlock and Dunlop say home won't sell
Firm wants pro. erty rezoned
BY JEFF SEDDON
Goderich planning
board learned Tuesday
night that a project that
started out to be
restoration off an older
home in town may end up
as professional offices.
Planning board
received an application
from Wedlock and
Dunlop Limited to have
property on Britannia
Road changed from
residential to com-
mercial. The property at
the corner of Bayfield
Road and Britannia Road
is owned by the con-
struction firm and the
house is under complete
renovation.
Bill Wedlock told the
board that the original
intentions of the firm was
to restore the 1870 home
for resale. But he said
after working on the
property and noting the
traffic pattern he and his
partner Brian Dunlop
realized the home would
not sell as a residential
property.
Wedlock asked the
board to change the -i"
designation of the
property from residential
to commercial and
change the zoning to
permit it to be used for
professional offices such
as lawyer, doctor or
dentist.
Wedlock said the
property may be ideal for
a professional. He said
the widening of Bayfield
Road resulted in the
home's potential
changing drastically.
He said the home has
no front yard, there is a
great deal of traffic on •
the street it is situated on
and with the number of
children going by it on
their way to Victoria
School it wotild, be less
than ideal as a home.
He said one could only
b -e c o life c-rovel
associated with the
property to realize why it
was not an ideal
residential site.
County planner Roman
Dzus said Wedlock's
observations may not be
enough to warrant
changing the zoning...He
said the board could be
opening the door to
anyone in town to buy an
older home and convert it
into a professional office.
Dunlop told the board
the firm realized when it
started the project there
was a possibility it could
be turned into an office.
But he said he and his
partner wanted to restore
it as a home first and an
office second.
He said only after work
got underway did the pair
realize the property just
wouldn't make it as a
home.
Planning board
scheduled a public
meeting for December 4 .
to see if there are any
objections to the firm's
proposal.
County
gets report
The social services
committee reported to
council that there are 270
county residents
presently receiving
welfare assistance from
the county, an increase of
21 cases over the same
period in 1978.
