Vanastra Recreation
Centre has smaller deficjt
'CLINTON - An audit
mistake has been found in
the books at the Vanastra
Recreation Centre. The
1975 error, disFovered by
municipal auditors, had a
centre's deficit recorded
at $124,469.84 when in-
deed it should have only
been $56,7-66.03.
Worm.
Way out
of country
ZURICH - There's a good
possibility that three
United States citizens
involved in a fraudulent
worm operation will
never be brought to trial
in Canada.
Although warrants for
the arrest of Richard
Taaurd, Thomas D.Stiler
and Gail Morey are still
outstanding, according to
Constable Sam Landry of
the London detachment
of the Royal Canadian
Mounted Police, , "We
don't ever feel we'll see
them again."
The trio skipped the
country in March after
being charged, with
misleading represen-
tation of the projected
market and 5 sub-
sequential profits from
the sale of worms.. They
were also charged with
working illegally in
Canada.
While the warrants will
be held for five years
before they will .be
reviewed, the only
development in the case
since March is the two
vehicles, which were
registered to Mr. Taarud
under the name of
International Ver-
miculture Service have
been disposed of.'
The books have not
been questioned in the
past years until recently
when a proposal for a
$250,000 addition to the
rec centre forced
auditors to look into the
records. During this
time, the deficit at the
centre • has been over-
stated by $68,703.81.
Tuc.kersmith Township
Clerk Jack McLaughlin
said that it was very
unfortunate that this
error occurred,
especially due to the
controversy over an
addition that exists
today. He said that the
township council would
like to apologize for the
inconvenience this may.
have caused and would
like to advise this deficit
should have been
re -ported --- as only
$56,880.19.
The council and the
auditors will meet and
steps will be taken to
make the necessary
adjustment necessary to
reflect the actual deficit
situation.
St. Marys students
reject junk food
ST. MARYS - Grade 12
home economics students
at the St. Marys high
school are having a hard
time keeping up with the
demand for nut snacks
they have been preparing
for their fellow students.
It's obvious that the
health food snacks are
popular for students.
They sell at 35 ee s a
pack, and are bringifilig in
an average of $55 a day.
The idea behind the
health food snacks was
offered as part of the,
recent Nutrition Week.
Schools in Ontario were
encourgaed to participate
in the week to .bring at-
tention to the importance
of proper nutrition and to
help assess the
nutritional standards • of
young Canadians.
Along with the snacks,
and a popular nutrition
quiz, a group of students
conducted random
surveys on what was
being eaten •in the
school's cafrtr'ria. These
who were found eating a
balanced meal had their
names placed in a box
and each day two winners
were• awarded buttons
which said, "Pure
Delight Snack Right."
