The town flower beds
have been stripped down
to their neat dark earth.
j'm sure the flowers wept
'becaue they had to go -
actually they were nearly
three weeks behind in
their show-off time and
I'm sorry to see that it
didn't matter. But, if the
wintry weather con-
tinues, the Parks boys
will be needed for other
duties - and so they pull
the flowers out of their
beds and let them weep.
But thank goodness not
all our gardeners have to
be so regimented. The
petunias, marigolds, the
mums and other brilliant,
hardy ' flowers are
braving the weather,
trying to cheer us up. So,
we can say "thank you
very much", as we go
shivering down the
street.
I am so mixed up with
the seasons - and it is
understandable - but last
August we had about
three weeks of really cold
weather.
August to me is the
height of summer, Then

Shiokari Pass is unique

The seasons just don't

and depicts the delicate
beauty of that country.
The drama of the story
unfolds against a back-
drop of Japan's spring
blossoms, snow-capped
mountains, an'd
whispering native music.
A true story, Shiokari
Pass is based on the in-
ternational best seller by
Ayako Miura. Nearly two
million readers have
been touched by this
story of the abiding love
of a young couple at the
turn of the century.
Credited with creating
a deeper understanding
of the Christian faith
among the Japanese
people, the film tells of This show, which
the love of Nubuo for started out so humbly,

to its gripping, unex-
pected conclusion,
Shiokari Pass is a
profound demonstration
of the power of love in one
life.
The Reverend Fred
Day, pastor of Bethel
Pentecostal Assembly
extends an invitation to
each member of the
community to attend this
special showing and
added, "Shiokari Pass is
the kind of film that will
be enjoyed and
remembered by the
entire family."
There will be no ad-

film program.
enough to hold all the
craftsmen who would like
to be part of this show. I
hope the Livery Theatre
Building will soon be
ready for such large
shows as this one will
some day grow to be.
Let's hope it is SOON.
The Brown Bag Lunch
bit was quite a happy
thought to help raise
money for the Per-
forming Arts Foundation
and so starting
November 8, there will be
hot lunches served to
many of the shoppers and
downtown people. This
will be on Thursdays and
Fridays from November
8 to December 22 at the
Performing Arts
Building, the old Polley
Livery Stable next to the
Bedford on South Street.
ALSO, for two or
probably three Fridays
before Christmas, they
will have a babysitting
arrangement - AFTER
the lunch hour.
They have a plan
enabling the use of the
front entrance part - with
heat, yet! And there are
plans for other activities
in that large room up to
Christmas time.
So, you will be hearing
more about it.
Please 'mark your
calendar NOW for the hot
lunch bit on Thursday
and Friday each week
starting November 8.
THIS Saturday is the
Rotary Drive.
On November 7, the
Holmesville UCW Bazaar
and Bake Sale will be
held at the White Car-
nation in Holmesville.
Also ;on November 7 is
the Benmiller Fowl
Supper.
On November 10 is the
Holly Berry Luncheon
and Bazaar at St.
George's Church from
noon to 3 p.m. Now
I'll bet the whole lot of
them - 75 or so - were just
pooped after that two day,
run.
The quality of the
crafts was once again
excellent and I believe
that this "Fair" is going
to be - sometime in the
near. future - not just a
bazaar -type affair but a
Crafts show and sale of
top crafts - 'and known
and advertised for their
craftsmanship.
The cities have craft
shows that draw the top
''crafts people and crafts
buyers and they are quite
successful.
r
THERE are workers!'
The other night I stopped,
in to see this group in
action. You wouldn't
believe the things they
were making for their
bazaar. There will surely
be a great variety from
tree decorations ano
kiddie things to the things
fOr Grandma's Corner - to
help grandma make up
her mind.
On Novemb it 17 the
Rotary Ball will he held
at Saltford.
On November 21 is
Vict is Street Church's
"Nimber Fair."
They have been
working like beavers on
the Gourmet Foods
section and Baked Goods
department. The variety
will be great. Mark your
calendar.
