Mustangs shade London 4-2
The Goderich Green
and Parent Midgets
scored three second
period goals and hung on
to shade London 4-2 in a
Vikings meet Exeter in football final
The GbCI Vikings
qualified for the Huron -
Perth Conference football
championship finals by
defeating the Listowel
Lords in semi-final play
here last Thursday by a
36-7 score.
The Vikings opponents
in the final game, which
will be played here,
Saturday, beginning at
1:30 p.m., will be the
Exeter Panthers. The
Panthers defeated the
Stratford Central
Ramblers, 1-0, in the
other semi-final Thur-
sday in a game played in
an early -season
snowstorm in / Exeter.
Dave Athill's 30 -yard
fourth quarter single
gave the Panthers their 1-
0 victory.
The Vikings started
strongly against the
Lords, piling up a 23-0
lead in the first quarter.
From there on, the
Vikings showed oc-
casional flashes of their
offensive power, but for
the most part seemed
content to sit on their
lead.
Randy Little scored
two of the first-quarter •
"touchdowns. The first
came 'on a 65 -yard
sweep, the second was a
75 -yard kick-off return.
Stuart Crew ran a punt
•back 63 -yards for . the
other Viking first quarter
major. Eric Mitchell
kicked convertsfor all
three touchdowns. The
Lords conceded a two-
point safety touch also in
the first quarter.
Dennis 'Bones' Don -
nelly scored the only
points of the second
quarter on a three -yard
dive play for a Viking
touchdown.
Listowel
John Stone,
on the board with a one -
quarterback, yard quarterback sneak,
put the Lords set up by a 70 -yard kick -

' The Junior Vikings won
their final game of the
season here Tuesday with
a 35-12 victory over the
Norwell Redmen.
The win boosted the
,Viking's record to four
wins against two losses,
good for third spot in the
final standings. South
Huron finished first with
a 6-0 record followed by
Stratford Northwestern
at 5-1. Listowel finished
fourth behind Goderich
with a 3-3 record.
Semi-finals will be
played next Tuesday with
Listowel playing in
Exeter and Goderich will
play in Stratford against
Northwestern.
Viking quarterback
Dave MacDonald
engineered the Goderich
offence throwing three
touchdown passes. He hit
Mike Evans with passes
of 20 and 26 yards and
Andy Masse haule'd in a
36 yard pass for a third
touchdown.
Masse also ran three
yards for another touch-
down and Aaron Masse
took one in from five
yards out for the fifth
major

The GDCI junior
Vikings defeated the
Listowel Lords, 7 - 6, in
Huron Perth Conference
football action last
Thursday in Listowel.
Dale Hunt gave the
Lordso an early 6 - 0 lead
when he gathered in a
pass from quarterback
Pete Zister and went 60
yeards for a touchdown
the first time Listowel
had the ball. The Lords
were foiled on an at-
tempted run for a two-
point conversion.
Goderich took the lead
with a converted touch-
down in the second
quarter. Dave
MacDonald teamed up
with receiver Andy
Masse on a 55 yard pass
and run play for the
Vikings touchdown. Dave
"Finn" McDonald kicked
the convert for what
proved to be the game -
winning point. -
In the second ha -If, the
Vikings generated some
offensive thrust, but
penalties kept them from
scoring, The Lords were
stopped n tl–ie ground 'by
the Viking's defence, but
managed to gain good

that will test the Viking
defence.
The Huron -Perth senior
final promises to be an
exciting contest.

The teams battled to a
1-1 tie after one period of
play with Goderich
opening the scoring in the
first minute of play on a
goal by Jim Fritzley.
Willie Denomrne and
Mike Paquette assisted
on the play. London
evened things up midway
through the period as Joe
Sadlowski beat Scott
Wilson in the Goderich
net.
Goderich got their
offence untracked in the
second period scoring
three straight goals to
take a 4-1 lead.
John Huff scored the
go-ahead goal just 15
seconds into the period
and Ken Young increased
the Goderich margin to
two goals scoring on an
unassisted effort at 9.91.
Mike Wedlock scored the
fourth Mustangs goal,
converting a pass from
Rick Stahl.
London scored the only
goal of the final period as
Dave Westman scored on
an unassisted play.
The Mustangs return to
action Saturday at 8.30
p.m.
