The Goderich Signal-Star, 1979-11-01, Page 5Goderich MRS. LAURA POWELL Mrs. Laura Powell of Goderich died in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Tuesday, October 23 at the age of 92. She was born in Goderich Township on July 2, 1887 to Willis and Emma (Laurason) Bell. Police chase cars There were two separate high speed chases through the streets of Goderich last week. On Wednesday, October 24 at 1 a.m. Goderich police chased a motorist through town, later charging him with dangerous driving. On Saturday, October 27 at 1:46 a.m. the Ontario Provincial Police chased a motorist through town, catching him atthe end of Essex Street and charging him with dangerous driving. On. Sunday, October 28 at 1:43 a.m., as the result of a call from a citizen in town, police were able to recover a pick-up truck which had been stolen from Mitchell. They later arrested a person for this offence and 'turned him over to Mitchell police. A bomb threat was phoned into Champion Road Machinery Limited on Monday, October 29 at 6:45 p.m. Police con- ducted a search of the machine shop at Champion but found nothing. A funeral service was held at McCallum Funeral Home in Goderich on Friday, October 26 at 2 p.m. The Reverend Robert Crocker officiated assisted by the Reverend John Wood. Interment was in the Maitland Cemetery, Goderich. Pallbearers were Arnold Bell, Don Bell; Meredith Wilson, Vic Powell, Arnold Powell and Hugh Powell. ALBERT JACOB MIDDEL Albert Jacob Middel of Meneset Park, Colborne Township died Suddenly in Colborne Township on Friday, October 26 at the age of 42. He was born on August 10, 1937 in Groningen, the Netherlands to Reinder ' and Janna (Naninga) Mi.ddel. He moved to Essex County in 1950 and to Goderich in 1958. On April 2, 1960 he married Shirley Hoy in Victoria Street United Church, Goderich. She survives him. He owned a contracting business. He was a member of the Goderich United Soccer Club and Victoria Street United Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Carrie. of London and Jeannette and Marty, both at home; his parents, Reinder and Janna Middel of Clinton; four sisters, Mrs. Gerben (Betty) Tolsma • of Goderich, Mrs. Bert (Ann) • Kolkman of Lambeth, Mrs. Wayne (Frances) Kuhtz • of .ti Goderich, Jake of Washington, D.C., Adrian of Coquitlam, B.C. and Ron of London. He was born on December 26, 1898 in East Gwillimbury Township, York County to John and Margaret Ida (Lapp) Cuyler. He worked as a lineman for 40 years with t'he Bruce Municipal Telephone Company in Port Elgin and Kin- cardine. He was a member of the United Church. On January 31, 1958 he married Dorothy Russell in Port Elgin. She sur- vives him. Also surviving are one son, Gordon of Palmerston; two daughters, Karen at home and Mrs. Tony (Kathleen) Clemens of Beamsvi.11e; and one sister, Daisy of Toronto. He was predeceased by one brother, John and one sister, Zoeletta. Young of Goderich died suddenly at his hone on Friday, October 26 at the age of 56. • He . was born in Goderich on July 2, 1923 to Girvin and Irene (Long) Young. ituaries He was a life long resident of Goderich. He worked in production control at Champion Road Machinery Limited and was chairman of the Committee of Adjust- ment for the Town of Goderich. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109. He was also a member of Maitland Lodge no. 33 A.F. and A.M. and a member of Knox. Presbyterian Church. He married Marjorie Bissett who survives him. Also surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Peggy) Rowcliffe of Seaforth; his mother, Mrs. Irene Young of Goderich; two grandchildren, Jane and Susan; and sisters -In-law and brothers-in-law, Jean and Mac Bell of Goderich and Betty and George MoncrieraAmberly. CATHERINE MARY LANNAN Mrs. Catherine Mary Lannan, a resident of the T L C Manor Nursing Home in Newmarket, died at her residence on Friday,.Dctoher 26 at the age of 80. She was born in Kingsbridge on June 14, 1899 to Stephen and Mary (Hogan) Martin. She lived in Kingsbridge until going to Newmarket in the fall of 1968. She was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Kingsbridge. On June 14, 1922 she married Williai i Patrick Lannan in Kingsbridge. He survives her.
