Whether it's on a busy street, country road or in your driveway the results are generally the same -- a feeling of helplessness. But you can help avoid many such situations by taking simple precautions and making regular under - the -hood inspections.. One thing you should do is find out where your car's fusebox ` is (generally located under the dash). Knowing its location and function could save you embarrassment. Say your car horn sticks (perish the thought), you won't have to rip out wires or get into a panic. You'll simply remove the fuse. And if the wipers refuse to work, you'll know to check the fuse first, then move on to check the wiper motor or hoses. And what if the power steering goes stiff? Lift the hood to check if the drive belt has broken. Failing that, check the fluid level in the power steering res- ervoir. Should the engine refuse to turn over, lots of things could be wrong. Hoses, radiator pressure cap and anti- freeze level (oil too) must be checked frequently.,, Check the levels on the master cyclinder and power steering .reservoir, too.
