The Goderich Garden
Club held its October 17
meeting in the music
room of Robertson
Memorial Public School
with an attendance of 38.
President, Mrs. Frances
Worsell, conducted the
business part of the
meeting.
Mrs. W. N. Peebles
from the Royal Botanical
Gardens in Hamilton was
introduced by Mrs. Lois
McGill, program con-
venor. The speaker's
topic was "Christmas
Designs for the home."
Starting at the front
door, a swag was made
using white pine boughs
with styrofoam as a base.
A large red velvet bow
was placed in the center
for accent.
Another hanger was
created in the shape of an
S or crescent. A piece of
9 -inch by 1 -inch chicken
wire was laid flat on the
table. Moist sphagnum
moss was tightly packed
along the long edge of the
wire.' After rolling it
tightly and securing the
edges, the design was
made into the desired
shape. Boughs • - of Yew
were fastened by• pins
starting at the end and
working toward the
center until it' was
completely
Sprigs of
berries, fruit
were added.
For indoors, club
members were amazed
when Mrs. Peebles used a
large potato with a flat •
side as the base. Juniper
was used this time. the -
boughs were cut into
lengths of 9,. 7, 5 and 3 -
inches. Starting at the
bottom of the potato with
the longest length, they
were inserted graduating
up to the shortest at the
base of a red candle
which had"been anchored
into the centre. Red
cherries completed this
swag.
The end table
arrangement consisted of
a brass container holding
a large salmon coloured
candle. Around this were
placed bunches of small
green grapes, green
apples, small gold
sprayed pine cones and
brown bows.
The coffee table
creation was on a Targe
flat plate which held a
cup pin holder into which
three yucca leaves of
different .lengths were
placed. A large, char -
covered.
artificial
and bows
treuse coloured candle,
several sprayed honesty
flowers of the sante shade
made this very eye ap-
pealing.
Christmas breakfast
was very unusual for it
consisted of two red birds
sitting on a large branch
which was sprayed white.
Three red carnations at
the base made a very
• striking ,design.
Christmas buffet was
one of the loveliest
displays. A silver can-
delabra with two tall pink
tapers were used as the
base. A container bet-
ween the tapers held an
•oasis into which juniper
boughs, 12 pink car-
nations, silver balls, and
sprigs of ivy were added
making this pretty as a
picture.
Christmas dinner was
designed for an oblong
table using a long
casserole dish. The oasis
was anchored and a hole
made for a large red
candle. Yew and Mahonie
shrubs were used. Fresh.
crab apples and rose
hips, which had been
dipped into shellac,
completed an attractive
table centrepiece.
Kumquats andlemons
could have been used.
This completed the
"Designs for the Horne".
Many other tips were
given such as how to
make the large red velvet
bows on the swag, birds
from milkweed pods and
a hanger from a gold
sprayed Javex bottle.
Mrs. Peebles held her
audience captive with her
pleasant personality and
her most creative ability.
She was assisted by her
son, Stephen,.
In appreciation for a
most enjoyable evening,
Mrs. Lois • McGill
presented the speaker
with a gift from the
Garden„Club. It was an
arrangement from the
Christmas Country Fair
at Saltford as a reminder
,of Goderich.
A bus trip to the Royal
Botanical Gardens in
Hamilton, to the "Xmas
'79 Creation Sale” on
November 22 is being
planned. 'All paid up
members ` are welcome.
The meeting adjourned
after the president's "Did

Sunday morning while
church communion was
being served. The choir
sang the anthem "Open
My Eyes That I May
See."

at old tyme music hour on
Monday afternoon and
there was a good at-

down to the auditorium to
listen to the music.
The Huronview

was decorated with the
Hallowe'en theme in
mind. The little ghosts,
witches and pumpkins
which were the table

in the main dining room
for our residents to enjoy.
Winner of the quilt was
Mrs. Mabel Jeffery from
Exeter.
Our "candy lady",
Mable Garrow, was busy
again on Wednesday
morning preparing more
candy for the residents
who were still hungry for
maple cream and fudge.
We would like to thank
,Mable for sharing her
recipe with us and going
to the work -of making the
candy.
The Elimville Women's
Institute celebrated with
all residents whose birth-
days fell in October on
Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Ronald Fletcher
showed slides of interest
interspersed with
musical selections from
Mrs. Philip Johns at the
piano, and Mr. Cecil
Skinner playing his
violin. Cupcakes and tea
were served after each
birthday resident
received their gift. Mrs.
Mable Garrow thanked
the Elimville ladies on
behalf of those
celebrating birthdays.
Mrs. M. Garrow, Mrs.
Bernice Glousher, Mrs.
Florence Flood, Frank
Bissett and Mrs. Elsie
Henderson • worked on
ceramic pieces which the
craft room will be placing
throughout the home.
Huronview would like
to welcome Grace Fairy

To minimize heating costs, current recommendations
n many parts of the country call for R-28 in the attic
area and up to R-20 in the walls. Insulation in the attic
poses no particular problem; you can always add to
your existing insulation. However there is simply not
enough room inside a standard 2x4 stud wall to install
R-20 insulation. GLASCLAD solves the problem.
GLASCLAD is a rigid insulating exterior sheathing
board that is applied in the same manner as con-
ventional exterior sheathing boards. But GLASCLAD, in
conjunction with"31/2" fiberglass insulation batts WILL
PROVIDE the necessary increased "R•yalue" you need.
It's applied vertically to the face of the studs. It's
easy to install; you can cut it with a simple utility
knife.
