An invitation to attend • the Fall Thankoffering meeting at Knox United Church on Thursday evening, October 25 at 8 p.m. was accepted. The treasurer, MrS, Frances Clark, gave the financial statement. A report of Huron Presbyterial held recently at Belgrave was given by Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. A discussion on the Legacy Act in connection with the Women's Missionary Society was held. °' A reading, Give Yourself a Little Time, was read by Miss Minnie Wagner. Mr. Elliott outlined the role of the trustee in today's education system and told how the various committees work to maintain goof) education throughout the County of Huron. He spoke of Special Education classes for the slower . learners and told of ways the Board -Teacher committees work to maintain the same level of education as other counties in the province, Mrs. Lillian Letherland thanked Mr. Elliott and presented him with a gift. The minutes of the previous meeting were adopted as read by the secretary, Mrs. ,.Robert Pork It was moved that Mrs; Thomas Haggitt be paid mileage to take her car to St. Marys on November 1 for the London Area Convention. The date set for Family Night with the Hor- ticultural Society was November 30. Mrs. Donald Cart- wright reported that there were 12 4-H members in the needlepoint course. The card report was given by Mrs. Lillian Letherland and she read the 'thank -you notes she had received. The report of the County Rally was given by Mrs. Robert Peck. The roll call was an- swered by naming an histgrical person. An invitation from Burns U.C.W. to attend its bazaar on October 24 and an invitation to a 4-H Achievement Day on December 6 at 7 p.m. at Hallett School were read. A contest was given by Mrs. Hugh Bennett and the winner was Mrs. Richard, Hawley. The meeting was closed with the Queen and Grace with Mrs. Donald Haines as pianist. Lunch was served by Mrs: Hugh Bennett, Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson, Mrs. Ed Davies and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock. Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer won the-Tftiize for having her work done so she could attend the meeting. Crafts of every sort were displayed and sold at the • Brookside teacher atconference By Lisa Brown and Marilyn Jamieson This week has been a very exciting week. • Room nine teacher, Mrs. Graham, went' to a confer- ence on Art from October lath to October 12th at the Downtown Holiday Inn, Lon- don. She attended lectures on the use of art in education today and art in the com- munity. A tour of the elem- entary and high school art programs was attended. Fri- day was spent in observing artists and consultants work- ing with various media in a workshop atmosphere. Room One had a special week reliving the story of the Gingerbread Man. On Tues- day they baked a ginger- bread man who disappeared leaving footprints and notes. Some comments from the children were: Kevin. Web- ster, "He was hiding him- self." Jeffery Stdrey, "He can't run!" Melonie Hunt- phrey, "Mr. Jewitt or Mr. Blake took him!" and Lizzie Binder, "He ran away!" Mr. Jewitt gave them the final Clue when he called over the intercom. "'There's a little brown man down here and you better come down here and get him." When they found him, they ate him. The cross-country meet for 1979 was held on Thursday, October 18th at Point Farms. Schools competing were Rob- ertson, Colborne, Victoria and . Brookside, Brookside received only one pennant, the Midget Girls Competi- tion.
